"Ooh, I'm so excited. It's been a dream of mine to sing in space ever since I was a child."
— The Galactic Patrolman Goes to Earth

An Azuki (亜月 アン Azuki An) is a ditsy Pop Idol in Jaco the Galactic Patrolman.

Appearance[]

An is a fair-skinned woman with two pigtails, bound by large ribbons. She wears a scarf around her neck and a dark tank top.

Personality[]

An seems to act like a stereotypical diva, as well as saying "ooh" when excited. She has always wanted to go into space and sing.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about her background except that she always wanted to go to space as a child.[1]

Jaco the Galactic Patrolman[]

An is first seen on the TV, being interviewed about going into space aboard a rocket called the "Twinkle 8". She admits how excited she is, but then Omori switches off the TV. She is later mentioned by Jaco, and Omori notes that she was going to go into space with no training whatsoever. She is later seen on TV singing a song called "Loving Rocket", to which Jaco switches off and deems stupid. She is last seen looking annoyed after Tights shows up to be her double on the rocket - both due to Tights having arrived two days late and after Tights makes a disparaging comment about her appearance.

Trivia[]

  • An Azuki's name is a pun on "Bean Paste" in Japanese.
  • Azuki in Japanese is Adzuki bean, an annual vine grown throughout East Asia and the Himalayas.[2]
  • Her hobbies include baking, dancing, reading, drawing, and beer (though beer is crossed out in her bio).
  • Despite Jaco describing her song "Loving Rocket" as stupid, it is apparently a catchy song as Jaco starts quietly singing it to himself when he's alone, with him shown to still be singing it years later when Bulma goes on her journey for the Dragon Balls.
  • She is the first Earthling Pop Idol to appear in Dragon Ball related media (as "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" is a prequel manga to Dragon Ball) with Cocoa Amaguri later appearing in the Dragon Ball Super anime.
    • Interestingly both pop idols are exclusive to one medium as Cocoa only appears in the anime version of Dragon Ball Super while An Azuki only appears in the manga (as "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" has never received an anime adaption beyond a brief single flashback scene in Dragon Ball Super).
