During the war between Hirudegarn and the Konatsians, Tapion and his young brother Minotia used their Hero's Flutes to hold Hirudegarn at bay. Given this opportunity, a Konatsian Wizard brandished the enchanted sword and used it to slice Hirudegarn in half.

After Hirudegarn's defeat, Tapion gives Trunks his sword, stating that it was always meant for him, referencing to the fact that his future counterpart, Future Trunks, was almost always seen with his sword. It was kept by him for years as a memento of the close bond he formed with Tapion during his time on Earth. Like his future counterpart, he has great use for the sword, and later creates along with Goten the Kikoukenjutsu Sword School.[4]

After Frieza's defeat in the Golden Frieza Saga, Trunks unknowingly references Frieza's first death by declaring that. with a sword motion, he'd "slice him a new one" if he came back, unaware that his alternate self was the one who put Frieza down in that exact manner.

The sword is seen during the opening credits of Dragon Ball GT although it is never seen anywhere else within the series.

Even though they might have met in Future Trunks' timeline, the events depicted in Wrath of the Dragon cannot be the exact origin of Future Trunks' sword due to the fact Future Trunks comes from a timeline where the Dragon Team are dead and the Androids reigned supreme. Though, at the end of this movie, the entire credit roll is accompanied by scenes of Future Trunks using his sword.

Future Trunks says that the sword was given to him by someone close to him when he uses the Dragon Balls to repair it in the arcade mode of Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, and it is stated that Tapion gave his sword to Future Trunks in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, with the latter mentioning that Tapion gave it to him after sealing Hirudegarn. Future Trunks tells Gohan that it was Future Gohan who taught him swordsmanship in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot states that the sword is merely of a similar design to Tapion's.

Variations[]

  • Future Trunks' Sword - According to some sources, Future Trunks' sword is said to be the Brave Sword of his alternate timeline.
    • Xeno Trunks' sword - In Xenoverse and Heroes, Xeno Trunks and his Metamoran fusions wield a sword similar to the design of the Brave Sword wielded by Trunks in the opening of Dragon Ball GT.

  • Minotia's Sword - A version of the Brave Sword wielded by Tapion's younger brother Minotia in Wrath of the Dragon and various video games. While the blade is mostly identical to the original, its size is more suited to being wielded by a childlike Minotia. Like the Brave Sword wielded by the Konatsian Wizard and Tapion, Minotia's Sword is enchanted and capable of injuring Hirudegarn though unfortunately Minotia was forced to fight the beast's lower half alone and was stomped to death in the film by Hirudegarn's lower half. However, in World Mission, the game world Tapion and Minotia are able to use their respective Brave Swords to combat the game world Post-Transformation Hirudegarn and ultimately slay the beast with assistance of Beat and Note.
  • Tapion's Sword (replica) - A replica of the Brave Sword (complete with sheath) that Shallot can obtain as an accessory in Dragon Ball Legends. Its design is based off the Brave Sword from Wrath of the Dragon.

Video Game Appearances[]

Tapion uses the Brave Sword in all his playable appearances.

Trunks uses the sword in Dragon Ball GT: Transformation.

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, Tapion's sword is an item that increases melee attack power for three minutes.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the Brave Sword appears as an accessory under the name Tapion's Sword.

In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, it is wielded by Tapion, Trunks (Youth), and Trunks (GT). Minotia also wields his version as well.

In Dragon Ball Legends, the Brave Sword is wielded by Tapion. Additionally there is a version of Trunks (Kid) based upon his appearance in Wrath of the Dragon who wears the sheathed Brave Sword on his back, though he doesn't use it in battle. Additionally Shallot can obtain Tapion's Sword, stated in its description to be a replica of the original, as a wearable accessory from one of the Exchange Shops.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it is noted in the Z Encyclopedia that Future Trunks' sword is similar in design to the Brave Sword.
