Bandai 1997 ginyu

The Saga Continues Captain Ginyu figure

  • The Saga Continues
  • Release date: 1997

Bandai’s basic toy lineup entitled “The Saga Continues” was released in 1997 and has included a deluxe action-equipped figure set which incorporated a Captain Ginyu preparing a deadly round purple blast. The boxart reads “Blasting Energy Action” and lists the character as “Ginyu.” Aside from these deluxe features, Ginyu also came with a miniature green scouter, which could easily be equipped on his face. Aside from the ability to blast this energy maneuver, the figure’s arms and legs are positioned in an immobile method and don’t have many joints, which doesn’t allow for perfect articulation. A rather nice feature, however, was the ability to remove the battle armor and re-equip it at ease. The shoulder boards along with the battle armor are removable, which allows for Ginyu’s body to be seen. With the minor articulation flaws, this figure remains one of Ginyu’s first ever pieces to be manufactured at a 5-inch scale by Bandai. This same figure saw a re-release by Irwin Toy and the piece remained the same aside from the packaging alteration.

Imagination set

Frieza with the entire Ginyu Force including Captain Ginyu collectible figurine set

  • Imagination Series 1
  • Release date: 2003

The first diorama-styled set unveiled by Bandai was the original set including the complete Ginyu Force with Frieza and was released in September, 2003. This set was a part of the series entitled "Imagination Figure." The Ginyu Force comes enshrouded in the form of a red aura surrounded by crimson burning flames with yellow and orange tint. The Ginyu Force is completely covered by this transparent inferno as their coloring scheme. Behind them, Frieza smirks as his icy fingers are twisted in the fashion which is depicted on numerous manga covers. The figurine set is initially designed to represent the original covers of the manga in a fluid motion, as the Ginyu Force was depicted to portray a vicious deadly organization. Other pieces in this set include Bulma inside one of her mechanical devices while she’s wearing headphones, Gohan preparing his final Kamehameha with Goku behind him, Oolong making his wish to Shenron, Kid Krillin and Kid Goku in their World Tournament match, and Super Saiyan Goku with final form Frieza, Perfect Cell, and Super Buu behind him in a silver outline.

Collection Volume 1 Captain Ginyu

  • Bandai Collection Volume 1 set
  • Release date: 2003

Before the initial HG collection, a gashapon set entitled "Collection Volume 1" was released in November 2003 with ground bases featuring a few characters from the Dragon Ball Z universe. Included in this roster was Captain Ginyu. Ginyu is seen standing with one hand pointing in front in a blasting position and the other pulled backward in motion. This is a very unique posture for Ginyu as well as an overall rare piece. The ground base for this piece has a dirt-like texture. Other characters also included in this same ground-base set are Frieza, Goku. two variants of Super Saiyan Goku, Vegeta, Imperfect Cell, Piccolo, Yamcha, Kid Goku, Shenron, Oolong, Perfect Cell, and Super Saiyan Teen Gohan for a total of 14 different pieces in this volume 1 collection.

  • Release date: 2004

Bandai released its Part 3 set in 2004. This set included Gohan on top of Turtle, Piccolo, Goku, Super Saiyan Future Trunks, Raditz, Launch, and of course Captain Ginyu. The figures all came in the basic gashapon bagging. Aside from being in his signature kneeling with both hands pointing down pose, Ginyu maintains a great deal of details for this piece, including his mouth being left open and overall paint job being extremely on the mark as well as the inclusion of his scouter. Since these were gashapon figures, they are individually sealed in their plastic Dragon Balls. This specific Captain Ginyu figurine was re-released later as a part of the HG Collection Series 15 set with minor alterations to his armor (the armor was brighter colored in the Part 15 version as opposed to darker in this Part 3 release).

Imagination Best version

Frieza with the entire Ginyu Force including Captain Ginyu collectible figurine set Best series variant

  • Imagination “Best” Series
  • Release date: 2004

The next diorama-styled set released in April, 2004 by Bandai was entitled “Imagination Figure Best Series”, incorporating numerous popular scenes from the series. These figurines stand at about 5 cm (2 inches) and are pretty much re-releases of previously produced figurines from other series in one set. These figurines stand at about 5 cm (2 inches) and the Ginyu Force comes enshrouded in the form of a red aura surrounded by crimson burning flames with yellow and orange tint as opposed to the previous version's all-metallic paint job. This version of the model, however, allows the Ginyu Force to have a certain shading scheme and metallic paint job rather than the alternate version's transparent-type crimson inferno. Behind them, Frieza maintains his smirk as his icy fingers are twisted in the fashion which is depicted on numerous manga covers. Other pieces in this set include Gohan preparing his final Kamehameha with Goku behind him, Oolong making his wish to Shenron (Shenron being a glow-in-the-dark piece), Super Saiyan Goku with final form Frieza, Perfect Cell, and Super Buu behind him in a silver outline, Super Saiyan 3 Goku with an electrifying aura emanating around him, and Super Saiyan Gotenks with the Kamikaze Ghosts (which also glow-in-the-dark) surrounding him.

Mask Lineage Ginyu

MCLoF Captain Ginyu Color version

  • Mask Collection Lineage of F (Genealogy of Frieza) Series
  • Release date: 2010

A very unique set released by Bandai in 2010 is the “Mask Collection Lineage of F” series, which portrays the sculpted heads of Frieza’s forces in a statuesque manner. Two versions of each character in this set are available; one colored version, and one completely black version with red eyes. The Ginyu in this series is highly detailed and is likely the best representation of his face as a single sculpt, with his light purple skin and very remarkable and meticulous effort being placed on the veins running across his forehead. There’s a sinister smirk running across his lips, but the primary facial expression is that of a calm yet collected wicked entity. His elongated bull-like horns heighten his features and greatly highlight his facial expression with extreme detail and the base portrays the character’s name in solid neon highlights, which in this case follows a Japanese naming scheme, written as “Ginew”. This specific piece comes with removable horns, which can easily be adjusted to snap-fit into place. This collectible statuette is one of the most highly detailed and the rest of the series is also very thorough in its initial construct and replication, staying true to the original look and feel of the manga and anime alike.

  • Mask Collection Lineage of F (Genealogy of Frieza) Series
  • Release date: 2010

The other version of Bandai’s 2010 release of the “Mask Collection Lineage of F” is the black variant. All characters in this set are featured with a completely black paint job and a very distinguishing detail: they all have piercing red eyes. This is likely to signify the evil aspect of the characters and makes for a great addition to any collection. Ginyu’s piece remains the same as well as his horns being removable.

This is another re-release of the previous HG Collection Part 3 and Part 15 figurine offered by Bandai. Both variants had minor differential paint jobs but this Maxi Collection version is completely different as it is colored in a metallic style, reminiscent of a pewter figurine. The shadows and overall impression is placed on the bends, curves, and joints in the form of black outline, detailing the general look of the character. The silver coloring scheme adds a nice unique touch to the collectible value and overall definitive alternate appearance as a piece.

UFO Catcher Captain Ginyu figure close up

  • UFO Catcher Series 2
  • Release date: 2004

The first Unifive SofVi figurines (5” scale) from series 2 of the Banpresto UFO catcher line of figures was originally released in 2004. These figures come bagged with miniature tags depicting their series numeric and are immobile as their feet do not turn and the articulation is limited. However, the initial paint job and design is remarkable. The Ginyu came packaged with a bagging and a logo card along with the others from the set (Gohan, Vegeta, Bulma and battle-damaged Goku). The Ginyu is very hard to come by but is especially well-designed in a blasting hand gesture posture (hand is placed in front in fist motion), with his feet in an immobile battle stance, and the closest likeness at a 5-inch scale.

This is the closest likeness at a 5-inch scale offered by Banpresto. The packaging features an orange box for this series set. Additionally, aside from being a re-release of the series 2 UFO catcher piece from 2004, this is also a nice packaging for all the characters from both these sets.

  • Release date: 2008

Banpresto revealed a slew of Keyholder figurines as one of their basic lineups. Released in 2008 and entitled “High Quality Key Holder,” the entire Ginyu Force is assembled for this amazing piece. The detail is remarkable and the paint job is very unique with a shiny and glossy look. When it comes to Ginyu, his skin tone specifically glows for this piece and the detail on his scouter is remarkable. The facial detail is amazing in terms of construct and resemblance. The only detrimental factor of this full piece is that all the Ginyu members are cut off at their torso, which means that there’s no legs to go along with the base, which is composed of an eruption of flames travelling around them.

The Saga Continues Deluxe Blasting Energy Action Captain Ginyu figure

  • The Saga Continues Deluxe Blasting Energy Action Series
  • Release date: 1999

Irwin Toy’s basic toy lineup entitled “The Saga Continues” was released in 1999 and has included a deluxe action-equipped figure set which incorporated a re-released Captain Ginyu preparing a deadly round purple blast. The boxart reads “Blasting Energy Action Figures” and lists the character as “Ginyu.” Aside from these deluxe features, Ginyu also came with a miniature green scouter, which could easily be equipped on his face. With the minor articulation flaws, this figure remains one of Ginyu’s first ever pieces to be manufactured at a 5-inch scale by Irwin, the actual first model being the Bandai version of this same piece. This is the first Irwin Toy version release of this piece and the first of three variants of this figure package. This version features a "Deluxe" label on the side and the title of the set is "Blasting Energy Action" although this would later be altered in an upcoming variant packaging.

  • Frieza Saga
  • Release date: 2000

Irwin Toy released the first series which included a miniature Ginyu as a frog alongside a Bulma figure in 2000 as a part of its Frieza Saga lineup. This is a rather unique form to find Ginyu’s figure, considering most of his merchandise is either in his original body or Goku’s body due to his body change maneuver. However, as the Namekian frog does indeed switch bodies with Ginyu, it is a relatively true likeness for collectible value. Others included in this same set are Nappa, Raditz, Garlic Junior with orb, and Master Roshi with Turtle. The Bulma figure is modeled to showcase her in her Namek saga appearance. The Ginyu frog is rather small but is also modeled well enough in terms of detail. Additionally, this same set was released as a metallic lettering boxart variant but the contents remained the same.

Released in 2003, the box art was designed to go along with the rest of the “Striking Z Fighters” series 6 set. The series involves a fighting motion triggered by a switch, which allows the fighter to attack in some method. In the case of Ginyu, his packaging front reads “with Milky Cannon action” although his actual attack is a physical double slice motion triggered by a switch rather than an energy-based attack. Additionally, Ginyu comes with a scouter, which can be equipped on the character’s face. It is also notable that this figure was released without a battle damaged look, as opposed to the Recoome figure in this same set. Aside from this, the packaging is a light yellow tint with the character image as the backboard.

The series involves a fighting motion triggered by a switch, which allows the fighter to attack in some method. In the case of this "Goku", his packaging front reads “with Zanku kicking action." Additionally, Goku comes with a scouter, which can be equipped on the character’s face. The packaging is a light yellow tint with the character image as the backboard, which actually depicts Goku in his normal state as opposed to being under Ginyu's control.

  • Series 17
  • Release date: 2004

The same Captain Ginyu figure was re-released yet again by Jakks Pacific in 2004. However, there was little more of a differentiating factor from the previous release aside from the genuinely newly crafted boxart for the series 17 set. He came with the same action attack from the previous release and in this case, the packaging front read “with interactive arm slashing action” and “Milky Cannon Action.” The light yellow box design gives a new touch to the packaging and the overall style of the box is rather unique, with intricate detail on the packaging bubble and sides. Additionally, Ginyu still maintains his same look along with his basic scouter.

The sets are released in 2-pack sets along with the mystery figurine being randomized. When any of the “Ultimate Figure Series” 2-packs are purchased, a mystery figurine is included in the set. Captain Ginyu is placed in the set as a mystery figurine, not visible directly in the box, but inserted in the mystery figure gashapon pack. The Captain Ginyu figurine remains the same as its previous “Soul of Hyper Figuration” release and allows for both the color version and black and white variant to be purchased separately. This color version is portrayed on the back of the boxart and comes packaged with two other characters, one a black and white version and the other a color version.

Frieza's Revenge series Captain Ginyu figure

  • Frieza’s Revenge
  • Release date: 2007

Released in February 2007, Jakks has offered yet another Captain Ginyu figure as a re-release. There is a shortened naming scheme on this package, referring to Captain Ginyu as “Capt Ginyu” on the package box front. The “Frieza’s Revenge” set is likely the most unique of the paint jobs when it comes to others in this set, primarily Jeice’s character. However, Ginyu’s character seems to maintain the same look minus the combat maneuver being taken out from this version. The figure’s model is still consistent with the previous molds aside from this one major differential. Of course, Ginyu still maintains his green scouter in the packaging.

Capsule Neo Ginyu Force special secret gashapon set with Captain Ginyu

  • Capsule Neo Series
  • Release date: 2006

The first MegaHouse capsule series to incorporate Ginyu was a Neo special edition set released in November 2006. It portrayed Ginyu along with the rest of the Ginyu Force as they play rock, paper, scissors to determine who will fight their opponents. Ginyu stands firm in a determined position, waiting for his crew to finish deciphering their game whilst Recoome and Guldo continue their attempts. Burter is seen snapping his fingers, likely due to the fact that he didn’t win the game, and Jeice is seen facing Ginyu, likely complaining about not being the one who’d fight their foes. The facial detail on Ginyu portrays him with his mouth closed as he is patiently standing and smiling, waiting for the game of rock, paper, scissors to determine who will fight. This set is comprised of the full Ginyu Force but is compiled only through collecting the rest of the pieces in this set. Since there’s one piece included in each gashapon set, this diorama comes together when all the other pieces are collected, making this a special secret gashapon piece for the 2006 Capsule Neo set.

Mattel[]

GinyuMattel

Dragon Ball Z Captain Ginyu figure

  • Dragon Ball Z series
  • Release date: 2000

Mattel’s Dragon Ball Z series has included reissues of the previously released Deluxe Blasting figures. Coincidentally, these same figures were also re-released by Irwin Toy. Mattel’s version doesn’t differ from either of these reissues aside from the fact that it offers a new packaging for the figure in this 2000 lineup. The cardboard is a light and dark green along with having a basic figure bubble in front as well as an insert photo of the included character, which in this case is Captain Ginyu, who is credited only as "Ginyu" on the packaging front. This deluxe action-equipped figure set incorporated a re-released Captain Ginyu preparing a deadly round purple blast. Aside from these deluxe features, Ginyu also came with a miniature green scouter, which could easily be equipped on his face. Aside from the ability to blast this energy maneuver, the figure's arms and legs are positioned in an immobile method and don’t have many joints, which doesn't allow for perfect articulation. A rather nice feature, however, was the ability to remove the battle armor and re-equip it at ease. The shoulder boards along with the battle armor are removable, which allows for Ginyu's body to be seen. With the minor articulation flaws, this figure remains one of Ginyu's first ever pieces to be manufactured at a 5-inch scale, the actual first model being the Bandai version of this same piece.

The Ginyu figure is very similar to his Jakks Pacific counterpart in terms of his stance, but is actually a smaller model and is depicted wearing a green scouter. Goku is seen charging an energy blast as Ginyu maintains a surprised expression. The packaging reads the contents as "Goku vs Ginyu" and features character art of Goku and Captain Ginyu on the packaging front. This authentic set was initially released in 1993 but has had numerous variants being modified in the future as completed sets.
