The technique is a smaller, less efficient variant of the Explosive Demon Wave. Piccolo used the technique against Raditz during the first confrontation, with little effect to the Saiyan. Interestingly, though it appears to be weaker, it is implied by Piccolo that it was much stronger than it appeared, though was ultimately rendered ineffective due to Raditz's power.

"Create a dust-flinging Ki Wave that allows you to deactivate your opponent's lock on you or your allies!"
— Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Skill description
Dust Attack was first named in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 where it appears as one of Piccolo's Super Skills and is a shorter burst version of Evil Explosion. It can also be obtained by the Future Warrior (Xenoverse 2) as a reward in Parallel Quest: "Heated, Furious, Ultimate Battle". It allows the user to deactivate an opponent's lock on, either on the user or their allies. They will also be blinded briefly.
- Its name Dust Attack is a reference to Raditz's comments about the attack producing a fine display of dust as a way to mock it ineffectiveness against him.
- Its use by Piccolo in Xenoverse 2 is another example of Piccolo's strategic mindset and ingenuity as he takes advantage of the technique's ability to kick up dust as a method to put his opponents off balance (essentially taking Raditz's mock comments to heart and using its unintended side effect of kicking up dust into essential aspect of the technique, which he can use against his opponents).
