Antenna Beam (怪光線 Kaikōsen, lit. "Mysterious Light Ray") is a technique used by Buyon and Piccolo.

Overview[]

The user shoots a bolt of electricity from their antennae or fingers to shock the opponent, stunning them.

Usage[]

BuyonElectricAntenna

Buyon charging his Antenna Beam

This is first used in the Dragon Ball anime when Goku invades Muscle Tower, one of the main bases of the Red Ribbon Army, and faces off against Buyon. The monster uses this attack to daze Goku, allowing Buyon the chance to try and swallow him, though Goku quickly escapes from the creature's mouth.

Spike the Devil Man used this technique against Goku.

It is next seen during the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament in which it is used by Piccolo. After Goku hits Piccolo with a double punch driven by a Feet Kamehameha, Piccolo quickly retaliates with the electric blast. Goku is sent crashing to the ground and left vulnerable to a follow-up attack, though it is intervened and blocked by Kami.

Piccolo uses this technique while charging his Special Beam Cannon against Frost in order to stall him long enough. Goku states that he hasn't seen this technique in a while.

Film Appearances[]

In Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, the Gatchans uses Antenna Beams against General Tao.

Other Media[]

The Gatchans use this technique in the Dr. Slump series, using it for the first time in the chapter "Kids Gone Wild", and later against Ogre-king Gyaska, Dodongadon, and again against the vacuum worker in "Vacuum 1982".

In Nekomajin, the demon Jajan uses the attack against Neko Majin Mix.

Variations[]

Video Game Appearances[]

In the Budokai Tenkaichi series, King Piccolo uses the Antenna Beam. Innocent Buu also has his own version of this attack, performed like the Transfiguration Beam. This attack is also inherited by Evil Buu, Super Buu, Kid Buu, and Uub.

In Dragon Ball Online, the Dragon Clan Namekians can also use this technique.

In Dragon Ball FighterZ, Piccolo's version of the technique appears under the name Demon Shocker which Piccolo and his artificial clones can fire straight or diagonally depending on the input.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, a backwards firing variation called the Paralyze Beam takes the form of a antenna beam when used by Piccolo and causes the opponent to stagger (unless they have the Super Armor effect). The Future Warrior can perform it as an antenna beam if they are a Namekian or Majin, though only those with certain head styles (as not all Namekian or Majin head styles feature antenna that it could be fired from). Paralyze Beam takes the form of an Eye Laser when performed by Namekians and Majin that have head styles lack antenna with which to fire it from, or other races that lack antenna such as Saiyan, Earthling, and Frieza Race. As part of the 1.09.00 Update DLC, Paralyze Beam can be added to Lord Slug's Custom skillset after purchasing it for 5 TP Medals in Partner Customization (Lord Slug's Initiation Test must be completed before he becomes available in Partner Customization). Like Piccolo, Lord Slug fires it in the form of a antenna beam.
