The Spice Boys (魔族四天王 Mazoku Shiten'nō, lit. "Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon Clan"), also called the Four Monarchs, are four Serpents replacing Garlic Jr.'s original crew (Ginger, Nicky and Sansho). They are under the command of Garlic Jr. during the Garlic Jr. Saga. They are strong, brave, evil, and totally devoted to Garlic Junior. Their names are derived from condiments: Mustard, Vinegar, Salt and Spice.

The commander is Spice, a white-haired extraterrestrial and the most handsome of the four. Salt is a short and stubby red extraterrestrial with a Mongolian-type hat. Both Mustard and Vinegar are large, brawny, muscled extraterrestrials.

Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys releasing the Black Water Mist

At the beginning of the Garlic Jr. Saga, Salt and Mustard kill a few innocent people. They also attack Gohan, and Salt and Mustard hold Piccolo in place to allow the "vampires" (Earthlings under the control of the Black Water Mist) to bite him. Spice is the only one of the four who seems to know that anyone bitten by someone infected by the Black Water Mist will become just like them. When Gohan and Krillin arrive at The Lookout, Salt and Mustard fight Krillin and Gohan, beating them up. Salt nearly kills Krillin with an energy blast which forces Gohan to unleash his hidden powers, killing both Salt and Mustard with a Masenko blast.

Spice and Vinegar

After Piccolo reveals that he was only pretending to be affected by the Black Water Mist, Gohan and Krillin fight Spice and Vinegar and seem evenly matched. Gohan defeats Spice and Vinegar, seriously injuring them both (Spice being impaled on a spike). But both Spice and Vinegar are powered up and healed by the Makyo Star, beefing up. They begin to pummel Gohan and Krillin, Vinegar nearly killing Krillin. Out of rage, Gohan kills both Spice and Vinegar simultaneously in midair, unleashing his hidden powers once again.

Trivia[]

  • In the Daizenshuu 7, they are referred to as the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon Clan.
  • The four members of the Spice Boys resemble the same height of the four of the members of the Ginyu Force: Salt is Guldo's height, Mustard is Recoome's height, Vinegar is Burter's height, and Spice is Jeice's height.
  • The Spice Boys' armor greatly resembles the Frieza Force's Battle Armor.
  • All of the Spice Boys met their end at the hands of Gohan and they are the first villains Gohan destroyed.
  • A common misconception is that group's name is a reference to the 90's Pop group, the Spice Girls. However, the Spice Boys first appear in the episode The Heavens Tremble, which first aired on September 18, 1991, predating the Spice Girls which formed in 1994.
