"Goku's Doll" (くうてきは...くう!? Gokū no Teki wa… Gokū!?, lit. "Goku's Opponent is... Goku?!") is the eighth episode of the Piccolo Jr. Saga and the one hundred thirtieth episode in the Dragon Ball series. This episode first aired in Japan on October 19, 1988. Its original American airdate was October 20, 2003.

Goku's Doll

Mr. Popo finally agrees to give Goku an opponent to train with. Meanwhile, Tien Shinhan, Krillin, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu, all are heading towards Korin Tower. On The Lookout, Goku's sparring partner turns out to be a clay version of Goku, except that his eyes are the same as Mr. Popo's. Their skills are exactly the same, the only difference is that the clay Goku has no interference in his mind and can concentrate completely on fighting. Goku has an extremely difficult time concentrating his mind. Finally, he seems to understand how the doll is disturbing the energy around him and defeats the doll. Well, he thinks he defeats the doll. Truthfully, the doll's energy simply runs out. Goku falls asleep, exhausted. Meanwhile, the boys continue toward Korin Tower.

Differences from the Manga[]

  • The entire events of this episode were exclusive to the anime.

Trivia[]

  • The symbol on the doll's Gi is the kanji 神 (kami), which means "god".
  • The color of the doll's Gi is more in line with how the Turtle Hermit Gi is colored in the manga.
  • In the Blue Water dub, this episode is titled Goku vs. Goku!.
  • In the Japanese version, as the driver is staring after Tien and the others, the song "The Teachings of Muten Roshi" can be heard playing on his radio. The English dubs did not include it.
