Power[]

Manga and Anime

Due to the bio-mechanical and cybernetic enhancements Dr. Gero gave him, including an unlimited supply of energy that grants him limitless stamina and an accelerated recovery rate, he has power well-surpassing the standard capacity of Super Saiyan. He was also powerful enough to easily murder his modified creator, Dr. Gero, in three blows and be an even match for Piccolo fused with Kami. During their battle it was said by Piccolo that 17's punches were quite light, but that he possessed very high speed. However, he still had a long way to go, because he is said to have great potential, but this potential was never unleashed because of his absorption by Cell; it is after 10 years of training and working his life as a park ranger at the same time, that he was able to access much of it. According to Future Trunks, his power far exceeded his alternate timeline counterpart, even more so after he trained within the ten-year gap after the Cell Games. During the Imperfect Cell Saga, he was no match for Imperfect Cell, after having absorbed hundreds of thousands of people to increase his power. In Dragon Ball Super, after meeting and fighting with Goku, 17 admits that he would have lost to Goku if Goku was present when he was awakened. He is also stronger than his sister, Android 18.

SS3 Goku vs 17

17 fights toe-to-toe with Super Saiyan 3 Goku

In Dragon Ball Super, Android 17 is chosen to join Team Universe 7 for the Tournament of Power. He is known to have gotten considerably stronger since he last appeared. He was noted to have gone through considerable training since facing Cell (in the manga it was noted his training came from protecting the wildlife). Dende even noted that if he were to still be an enemy of the Dragon Team, it would be a problem for them.

In the anime, he overwhelms Super Saiyan Goku and then fights on par with Super Saiyan Blue Goku (who was not using his full power, though Android 17 was not using his full power either).[1].

In the manga, Android 17 initially holds an advantage over base Goku, and after overwhelming Super Saiyan 2 Goku, he then appears to have a slight edge over Super Saiyan 3 Goku when they battle with one another, though Goku stops the fight.

During the Tournament of Power, in the manga, Android 17 swiftly defeated Murisam with a quick series of blows, earning the first elimination of the tournament. He then proceeded to easily eliminate Rubalt and Dium. Against Botamo, despite the foe's elastic form making him essentially invulnerable, Android 17's blows were so powerful, that the sheer amount he contorted Botamo had a recoil affect, launching Botamo out of the arena from the force of his body springing back to normal.

In the anime, he effortlessly beat Dyrasem and once serious he easily knocked Bikal and Kakunsa out of the arena. He was able to fight on par with the angry Ribrianne, although she was able to shatter his Android Barrier with one punch. Android 17 was able to fight on par with Roasie, and blasted her out of the arena with a Photon Flash. He also easily defeated Biarra. He and Android 18 were also overwhelmed by the intense gravity of the Pretty Black Hole and were unable to stand, while base Goku was able to stand up, turn Super Saiyan Blue and destroy the Black Hole. While the rest of his team remained clueless to Damom's attacks, Android 17 showed very astute senses, able to determine that their foe was in reality diminutive in size. With Goku's aid to keep Damom grounded, Android 17 was able to trap Damom in an Android Barrier and proceeded to kick him out of the arena.

Against Agnilasa, Android 17 was overwhelmed by the giant warrior, and almost knocked out. Together with all the remaining members of Team Universe 7, Android 17 engaged in a beam struggle with Agnilasa, and even then, Agnilasa almost overwhelmed Team Universe 7. However, Android 17 was able to damage Agnilasa's energy reactor with a Barrier Punch, giving his teammates the opportunity to knock Agnilasa out of the arena.

Against Top, alongside Potential Unleashed Gohan, Android 17 was at a disadvantage. However, Android 17 was able to fire a Ki Blast that momentarily stunned Top and was even able to briefly fight on par with him, however Top dislocated his shoulder. Against Top by himself, Android 17 was able to briefly match him in a beam struggle, however, Top managed to almost overpower him and knock him out of the arena before being saved by Frieza. Together with Golden Frieza attacking Top from behind, Android 17 was able to turn the tide and overpower Top in the beam struggle.

When Top unleashed his Destroyer Form, the gap between Android 17 and Top widened. Despite the increase in power, 17 was still fast enough to dodge Top's Destruction balls. When he was finally cornered by Top, Android 17 was able to withstand his blasts, although he was very injured. Android 17 and Final Form Frieza's Ki Blasts were able to match Top's empowered Ki Blasts.

Against Jiren, Android 17 was even able to withstand a Power Impact from him and is also the first fighter to actually cause noticeable damage to Jiren with a sneak attack. After he and his allies were completely overwhelmed by Jiren's blast, 17 was the first one to return to his feet and quickly recovered enough to engage Jiren. Ultimately, he was just strong enough to fend off Jiren's energy ball while protecting Goku and Vegeta in a barrier each. By "self-destructing" he could repel Jiren's blast though it seemingly killed him in the process.

Yet after Goku is drained from the effects of the mastered state of Ultra Instinct, Android 17 is revealed to have survived his technique, and further powers up alongside an exhausted Golden Frieza. Watching Jiren and Golden Frieza's battle, 17 is in awe at how strong they are. During his battle with Jiren while teaming with Frieza, 17 was able to deal a devastating blow to Jiren by detonating a giant ki blast in his lower back after trapping him in his barrier, condensing the explosion and forcing Jiren to take all of the attack. This maneuver was enough to actually make Jiren vomit and drop him to his knees in sheer agony, momentarily making Jiren accept defeat.

When Jiren regains his strength, Android 17 was able to fight Jiren alongside Frieza and Goku, acting as the support by firing numerous ki blasts at Jiren to cover Goku and Frieza's approach. These ki blasts were able to push Jiren far back and cause a great amount of damage to the point where Jiren actually pushed Goku and Frieza aside to focus his attention on 17, at which point 17's blasts stopped having an effect on him.

In the manga, Android 17 is able to fight Dyspo and hold an advantage. He is unable to even track Jiren's movement when he and Frieza are initially attacked by him. However, he manages to save Golden Frieza from being eliminated by Jiren, blocking a blow from him to do so, though he is no match for Jiren and is quickly knocked aside when he attempts to fight him. His "self-destruct" does nothing to the Pride Trooper, though it does annihilate half the Tournament of Power arena; with Tien and Krillin being surprised that even 17's "self-destruction" did not affect Jiren at all. After the tournament, Goku notes that Android 17's strength wasn't so far off from his own despite doing little training[2] (in the Viz version Goku notes to Beerus that he is impressed by how 17 is "just about as strong as us" ).

In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, it is noted by Piccolo that Android 17 is weaker than Gohan. Android 17 is able to outmatch the battle-damaged Seven-Three thanks to being immune to his energy absorption technique that he copied from Moro. When faced with the empowered Saganbo, Android 17, Android 18 and Jaco choose to retreat from the fight. Even fighting together Android 17 and Android 18's heaviest attacks are barely enough to make Moro flinch, though he is impressed by their power.

In Dragon Ball GT, Gero notes that Android 17 was intended to have tremendous power greater than Cell's, but he was an imperfect and unsuccessful creation, so his true power lay dormant. In the original Japanese version, Android 17 mentions that he's being filled with the power of Hell when he and Hell Fighter 17 open the portal between Hell & Earth. It is later commented by Dr. Myuu that the portal between Hell and Earth was the result of the power resonated by both. Android 17 had effectively become much stronger, on par with his Hell Fighter counterpart. By fusing with Hell Fighter 17, Android 17 is able to access this true dormant power and become Super 17.[3]

Android 17 doesn't actually get a chance to showcase this power. He only fights with Android 18, and it was his intention to recruit her rather than actually harm her. However, he does kill Krillin, and he takes an assault from 18 without sustaining damage. He manages to have enough will power not to kill her with his attack.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes

In the anime version of the Universal Conflict Saga, Android 17 is able to overwhelm Oren. With Piccolo fighting alongside him, the two are able to overpower Kamioren and cause him to break apart, causing Hearts to have to intervene.

In the game version of the New Space-Time War Saga, Android 17 (DB Super) is noted to be as strong as Super 17 who is displeased by this fact. This indicates he is stronger than both his GT counterpart and Hell Fighter 17.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

Android 17 wields more power than his sister, Android 18.[4]

In a statement for the Universe Survival Saga, Akira Toriyama noted that Android 17 has great potential.[5]

In a preview for Android 17's appearance in Dragon Ball Super he is referred to as the mightiest Android, whose power surpasses the ultimate after this decade-plus time gap since his previous appearance.[6]

Toshio Yoshitaka, a script writer for Dragon Ball Super, noted that he believed Android 17 was the third strongest on the initial Team Universe 7 from at the point of episode 92 (before Frieza joins) - only being weaker than Goku and Vegeta, though he notes that since Gohan and Piccolo have gotten stronger they may be superior in power to 17.[7] Yoshitaka later stated that Goku utilizing Super Saiyan Blue in his recruitment of the initial members of Team Universe 7 was simply to gauge and motivate his opponents - specifically noting Android 17.[8] Yoshitaka later went on to state that from his point of view, Android 17 was equal to Gohan in strength and both were stronger than Frost and Piccolo.[9]

During the Tournament of Power, Android 17 was weaker than Goku and Frieza.[10]

However after the Cell Games, 17's future brother-in-law Krillin would wish to Shenron for the self destruct devices to be removed after it was revealed that he couldn't restore the twins to normal Earthlings. Android 18 would inform him of this fact after he was revived by Shenron following the Cell Games according to the Dragon Ball Super manga. In Dragon Ball GT, it is suggested she never informed him of this fact based upon Android 18's bluff threat to use the Android Bomb on his evil fusion, Super 17.
