The alteration-type ki manipulation technique (変化型の気功技, Henka-gata no kikō-waza)^[7] is a special ki manipulation ability used by several characters. It is the creation of weapons via energy.

Overview[]

How the technique is used varies from person to person, but it generally involves concentrating ki in one hand that turns into whatever the user wishes. The user can then use the ki weapon however they want. This technique is hard to achieve and requires a great amount of ki control, so only a handful of individuals have used it.

Usage[]

KrillinDestructoDiskEarth — The first known appearance of a ki alteration technique, the Destructo Disc.

The first significant appearance of this technique appears in the form of the Destructo Disc invented by Krillin after a few months training with Mr. Popo. First used against Nappa, it is known to be a powerful and clever attack, known for its cutting power - capable of slicing through Frieza's tail and bisecting Kid Buu. Several other fighters, including Vegeta, Frieza, Goku, Cell, and Android 18, saw the usefulness of this technique and either mimicked it completely and/or developed their own versions of the Destructo Disc, including Krillin himself.

GotenksSuperSaiyanGalacticDonut — Gotenks with a Galactic Donut.

Later on, Gotenks invented a technique of his own during the fight with Super Buu in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, similar to the Destructo Disc, the Galactic Donut. However, this technique does not work against Super Buu's caliber, as Super Buu and even Gohan managed to break this technique. However, Gotenks too has proved to use this technique in a clever fashion such as creating the Donuts to form an energy volleyball. It can also be notified that Buu also used this technique after he absorbed Gotenks.

VegitoBlueSpiritSword — Vegito using Spirit Sword against Fused Zamasu.

The most common usage of this technique is to create Energy Blades, first shown with Salza's Salza Blade and subsequently popularized by Vegito's Spirit Sword. As one of his signature attacks, he used it in all of his appearances so far: the first to impale Super Buu (w/Gohan absorbed) in an attempt to have him give up and against Mutated Fused Zamasu, in which he tells him he can also use this ability.

Violent Fierce God Slicer, a known product of the Divine Weapon Forging ability.

Though Zamasu could always use the God Split Cut, only upon becoming Goku Black and transforming into Super Saiyan Rosé could he evolve the technique into the Violent Fierce God Slicer. He displayed liberal use of the blade, varying from a scythe, a needle barrage, and a scimitar-like appearance. He also used this to turn his Black Power Ball into Divine Retribution and its other variants. Goku Black's nature of this technique is usually utilized with his Super Saiyan Rosé aura, however, in very rare instances, Goku Black has been seen using the Super Saiyan Rosé enhanced ki weapons while inside the Super Saiyan Rosé aura.

Blades of Judgement2 — Blades of Judgement, one of many of Fused Zamasu's techniques that uses the alteration ability.

Fused Zamasu, like his fusee, Goku Black, has access to the Super Saiyan Rosé form, and could use this technique in a similar matter, albeit on a much greater scale as shown via his Barrier of Light, Wall of Light, Absolute Lightning, and Blades of Judgement. Interestingly, the techniques created with this ability by Goku Black and Fused Zamasu are usually named based on "divine" terms (such as "holy", "judgement", and "absolution").

JastiseBureido — Kahseral's Justice Saber.

Kahseral, the general of the Pride Troopers and member of Team Universe 11 has been shown switching his energy blade, the Justice Saber and his energy sphere, the Justice Bomber several times in combat. The Justice Saber can also be adjusted by Kahseral to be longer or shorter.

Caway from Universe 4 is able to create Boomerangs, a Hammer, and a spear. Her ability surpasses Kahseral and is very similar to Goku Black's ability, being able to create and materialize weapons with specific characteristics. Ganos, also from Universe 4, is able to create a dual-handed Grand Eagle, though the left blade splits into two.

In the manga, Vegeta himself displayed use of ki alteration by creating a Spirit Sword to latch onto the stage as he was about to be knocked off, keeping himself from being eliminated.

During the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Gas uses this technique to coat his weapons with ki to augment its attacking power and create giant spectral limbs to attack his opponents.

Future Warrior using Divine Lasso — Future Warrior using Azure Dragon Sword Model Energy Blade.

Although not mentioned in the games, the products of these techniques can be seen in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle. This ability can also be used by the Future Warrior, although the Future Warrior cannot use the Scythe version of Violent Fierce God Slicer. Fused Zamasu uses Divine Weapon Forging to create numerous products as part of his moveset in Xenoverse 2. As part of the '1.15.00 Update DLC, the Supreme Kai of Time Chronoa can utilize it to fasion blade-like hour and minute clock hands as part of her Holy Inscription Super Skill.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Xeno Bardock's Full Charge Rebellion Edge is a Ki Alteration Super Attack.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, the golden Shenron-like Dragon formed as part of EX Dragon Fist is revealed to be made of ki which the game dubs Dragon Ki which the user must charge up before they can launch the EX Dragon Fist indicating it is a form of Ki alteration. In addition to EX Dragon Fist, the Hero Avatars can utilize various Ki alteration Super Attacks such as Destructo Disc, Death Slicer, Spirit Sword, Spirit Excalibur, Spirit Saber, and Final Excalibur. Note can learn Spirit Sword at Bond Lvl 40, while Kagyu can learn Violent God Slicer at Bond Lvl 15.
