Most underused move in the show, used only to escape battles, for Cell to become Perfect and to assist in defeating very few enemies. Surely this move could have been used to great effect against someone like Buu (any form), I cannot recall anybody using it against him, whether to escape or as means of offense. Even Krillin could have used it to hide from Super Buu when he ate everyone at the lookout. Disappointed.
After using the Solar Flare on Freeza, Why didnt Krillin throw a Destructo Disc
The most obvious and easiest way to kill Frieza was left out because the saga would not be in any way dramatical. It would just be an easy win, which wouldn't be good. ~Final~

I was thinking the same thing about how you could defeat frieza with a solar flare+destrocto disk. I do not know if the flash is an energy attack that stays in the area where the user used it or what. Thats how I would do it if my life was in danger sf+dd. Although frieza was cut in half and lived so it might piss him off pretty bad. But yeah solar flare not used at the right time

Vs Buuhan[]
Was thinking maybe when Goku and Vegeta were being dominated by Buuhan, use Solar Flare + (insert attack/combo attack here, such as that double kamehameha/blast they did inside of Buu) in an attempt to beat Buuhan, it doesn't have much effect, drag that fight out a little before the fusion, so Vegeta knows there is no other way, not just, "ok Kakarot I'll do it" after a short speech.
