I know this post is long, but its worth reading. Basically, nearly every forum seems to dislike teen and adult gohan, calling him a "dissapointment" etc. I have yet to see a decent defense for him, so I'm making one. Other forums always state how "lazy" gohan was for the 7 years following cell, how he's weak, and how he basically went from being the most powerful fighter to being mocked by vegeta during his battle with dabura

(as a side note: I am not considering dragonball gt in this analysis since I personally do not think it is valid. So, if you do rebutt, do not use gt as evidence since it is irrelevent to my analysis)

Here are my thoughts: (i look foward to your input).

1. We do not know that Gohan was lazy. Only according to Vegeta (who trains at like 500 times gravity every minute of every day) was he deemed lazy. He could have still been training just not to the degree as if the world was ending (like he did in the hyperbolic time chamber with cell)

2. Often people cite his decrease in power over the 7 year hiatus as proof of his laziness. However, there is one thing to keep in mind here.

One is that during his fight with cell when Gohan released his power and became ss2 it was driven by his hidden power. This hidden power has consistently raised his power level much higher then he could achieve normally. Therefore, the discrepency in power levels between kid gohan and teen gohan could be due to his hidden power not being the underlying cause.

So, when considering this, the power difference between kid gohan and teen gohan could not have been solely due to laziness.

3. People seem to dislike teen gohan because they think hes weak. One thing they often point to is Vegeta's declarations during gohans battle with dabura (where he said gohan was essentially a weakling and how much stronger he is compared to gohan).

However, Vegeta has a notorious habit - which has shown itself throughout the whole series - to overate his own power, and underrate his opponents (examples being his fight with goku, the whole frieza saga, and his confidence that he could beat perfect cell and allowing him to absorb 18). Therefore, his condescending comments regarding Gohans power level are bias and most likely innaccurate.

And in the episode energy drain the Supreme Kai's comment that Gohan is the strongest fighter at the tournament, and the fact he chose Gohan to wield the z sword is further proof that Vegetas comments are most likely a miscalculation on his part (Vegeta once again believing that he alone is the most powerful and can defeat dabura).

4. People also seem to dislike Gohan because of his study habits. But he actually doesn't really study that much. Most kids are in school 6 hours a day plus homework and since hes home schooled I'm guessing as a kid he studied a normal amount. As a teen he never studies -- he just goes to class (and in fact he often skips even this) then flies around doing whatever he wants because hes so smart that he gets 100% on everything and doesn't need to study (this was stated by his teacher when he first entered high school). And as an adult he is a scholar - he is doing what every other good person does, which is provide a means of income for his family (rather then selfishly train 24/7)

Also, people seem to really dislike the great saiyaman but his saiyaman outfit was created by Bulma, not him -- therefore, the blame for its geekiness falls entirely on her. Before Bulmas outfit he was the "gold fighter" which involved no costumes or superhero talk (and was Gohans original choice). He just had to make the great saiyaman over the top so people would forget about the gold fighter.

5. And concerning adult Gohan (in the very end of dbz) people often are dissappointed in how he turned out. I fail to see why. From the time Gohan was 4 and a half years old he said he wanted to be a great scholar. As an adult not only had he achieved his dream career of being a great scholar, but he also was the strongest unfused dbz character (because by this point he had already achieved his ultimate form).

Therefore, the fact that he is nerdy and a scholar only amplifies his coolness because he was able to achieve that kind of power while having an incredibly successful career. Unlike Goku or Vegeta who trained their whole lives and never spent anytime on anything else.

And Gohan's lack of training in adulthood shouldn't effect his ultimate form (meaning he will always have it) since the power stems from the "hidden power" within him rather then from intense training. Essentially he was born with the power, so it can't really be eroded through a lack of training.

6. And the final and most important thing to keep in mind is that people often overlook Gohans age. During the buu saga Gohan is 18 years old (he was 11 at the end of cell so adding the 7 years of peace makes 18).

Gohan is anything but weak. In fact, compared to Goku and Vegeta's power level when they were that age Gohan is practically a god. Even in his pre-ultimate form.

In the very end of dragonball goku was 18 years old and he had a power level around 300 (I'm making this judgement off of raditzs' initial power reading of goku at age 23). And when Vegeta came in the saiyan saga both him and Goku were nowhere near being a super saiyan and they were well into their twenties.

Even before achieving his ultimate form Teen Gohan at 18 is still incredibly strong. He is not only a super saiyan, but a super saiyan 2. That is the strongest level ever achieved by any unfused character for that age. Vegeta is obviously wrong to deem him soft and/or weak. And after the elder kai's training, still at age 18, Gohan achieves his ultimate form and becomes stronger then a super saiyan 3 (he was able to effortlessly demolish buu in the episode "a whole new gohan" while ss3 gotenks had trouble).

In fact, at 18 years old Gohan reaches a power level so high as to be unsurpassed for the rest of the saga as the strongest warrior (as stated by Akira Toriyama that Gohan is the strongest unfused character).

So basically, at 18 years old Gohan is stronger then a super saiyan 3 while at that same age Goku was training with kami (who is comparatively, and ridiculously much weaker then a ss3).

Therefore, I conclude my argument that teen gohan and adult gohan rock and they are unfairly criticized.

I'm sorry about the rant. But as you can tell Gohan is one of my favorite characters and its kind of annoying how everyone dumps on him. So I wanted to give teen and adult gohan some well deserved credit.

THANK YOU FOR SAYIN EVERYTHING WORD FOR WORD WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT CHI CHI LITERALY DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE U SAID U LOVED IT WHEN CHI CHI WAS TURNED INTO AN EGG AND WAS STOMPED. I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE FINALY SHUT THAT DUMB BITCH UP AND STOMPED HER USELESS ASS INTO THE GROUND it truly makes me happy someone else out there understands how i feel about chi chi. shes a dumb bitch who is so ridiculous about her own selfish fantasy of havin her son be a scholar. and i hate how she babys gohan all the time like as if hes not a saiyan that can blow up planets with a finger. shes just simply a cunt. like when she slapped buu all i could think is who the fuck does she think she is. does she really think buu gives a fuck just bcuz gohan is HER son? fuck no, i cant stand moments like during the cell saga when gohan trunks and some of the others were on the plane and everytime gohan brought up an important point she just kept covering his mouth and on top of that she freaks out and busts out gohans study books...and i kno this is off topic but FUCK THAT CUNT PAN ALSO. she ruined gt for me in so many ways. but anyways gohan is awesome and doesnt get enough credit. and for all the ppl out there who keep sayin he got lazy, its not his fault. if goku never decided to stay in other world and was there with gohan during those seven years chi chi wouldnt have gotten her way full time, goku would have made gohan train with him. its not that gohan was weak either btw, goku says it when gohan was fighting dabora that it was his judgement and fighting instincts that were rusty bcuz gohan kept trying to defeat dabora with direct attacks when goku and (probably vegeta as well) knew that wouldnt work.

Chi Chi is to blame. Gohan only at the age of 4 was already being home schooled and she wanted him to become a scholar. What the fuck!? the boy is only 4 years old let him have fun with his father & his friends but instead she forced him into becoming something he probably didn't want to be. I know that he got to hang out with his friends sometimes and he didn't always study but it was because Gohan neither sneaked out or Goku and or Gohan forced it upon her. She also filled his head with nonsense about being a fighter is bad and a waste of time. So what does that make Goku and Krillen? Hey bitch it's possible to be a good fighter and a scholar which Gohan does turn out to be but not as great as his father or Vegeta. Chi Chi went as far as saying that studying and getting a driver's license is more important than saving the earth and the universe *face palm* what a stupid bitch if it wasn't for Goku and the rest of the Z fighters the earth would have been destroyed so many times and driver's license really why? here's an idea instead of forcing Goku and Piccolo who got dragged into it by Goku (Goku does get a license cause he is shown driving during the 10 day wait for the Cell Games but I don't see the point)..why don't you just get one yourself or have either Goku or Gohan since they both know how to fly help you out either that or teach you how to fly yourself that way you won't need a car and also why was she seen carrying grocery bags at 1 point? she doesn't she use a capsule that allows you to store anything? She also has the Ox's king fortune and is friends with the Briefs the owners of Capsule Corporation plus Gohan marries Videl who is the daughter of Hercule Satan. She also flipped when she saw Gohan in his Full Power Super Saiyan form because she thought he dyed his hair bitch calm down and listen to Goku but since she never listens to him anyway so that wasn't going to happen at all. After the Cell Games Chi Chi does get less annoying but I still don't like her at all and I shouted for joy when Super Buu turned her into an egg and crushed her. Anyways that was my rant on Chi Chi and she does play a big part as to why Gohan becomes lame. Okay now onto your points.

1.) Vegeta never called him lazy at all when they saw each other at Capsule Corp Vegeta said "Well well aren't you looking dull a true warrior should be ready even at times of peace" watch episode 186 "I am Saiyaman!" He basically wants Gohan to train and be prepared for any villains coming even during peaceful times which is true plus Goku left Gohan with the job of protecting the earth which he failed at doing. When it comes to training in order to maintain you skills as well as improve them maintain your power and push yourself to get stronger I would consider Gohan "lazy" because studying to become a scholar is Waaay more important than saving the earth..sarcasm again Chi Chi is to blame for Gohan having that attitude. I know Gohan doesn't like to fight but he should know that saving the earth is more important than some job I already explained that they got connections with people who are millionares so money isn't an issue. I didn't like Gohan during the Cell saga because of the whole I don't want to fight thing after all he has went through up to that point especially with Frieza I would have expected him to have matured and realize that fighting for a good cause like PROTECTING the earth!! from exploding and protecting your loved ones is a very good reason to fight which Android 16 remains him of. What!? lol the blame isn't only on Bulma it's on Gohan too for even liking the outfit he could of easily asked Bulma to change it up...his previous outfit from the Cell Games was way more badass. Hahaha Gohan was the strongest at the World Martial Arts Tournament!? NO he was not Supreme Kai doesn't know shit both Goku & Vegeta at that point were more powerful than he was. They didn't even need to bring Piccolo, Krillen, Gohan, Supreme Kai, or Kibito with them to stop Babidi. Vegeta at that point was the most powerful warrior alive since Goku was dead and he could have easily defeated Dabura as well as stop the entire plan of the revival of Majin Buu all by himself. Gohan like Vegeta plays with his opponents which led to having Goku lose his life protecting the earth from being destroyed by Cell & having Super Buu absorb SSJ3 Gotenks & Piccolo thus having to revive Goku to once again get his son out of trouble he himself could have taken care of if he didn't let it get out of hand. While it's true that after Old Kai released all of Gohan's hidden power and he became the strongest non fused character and was stronger at his age than both Goku and Vegeta were at theres...he doesn't have the experience or level of skill that Goku & Vegeta both have plus I highly doubt that after the 10 year gap to the final episode of Dragon Ball Z that Gohan is still the strongest since he quit from fighting while Goku & Vegeta kept training. I'm sorry but Gohan is lame.

I completely agree with your argument, thank you for defending gohan's good name.Supreme Gohan 05:40, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

The real reason we hate him.[]

All your points are true and Gohan is a very powerful chracter. However he was the strongest in cell saga surpassing both Goku and Vegeta. He had many fans at the time(including me!). In the buu saga he was weaker than goku or Vegta and even in his ultimate form he was beaten by Buu in the end; I still recall how his ass was kicked after all the seemly power-up scene in ther other world. To tell the truth I love Gohan but he became weaker and weaker in dbz and gt after the cell saga. Even vegito was stronger. I do not say he is very weak but that he was never as strong like in the cell saga . Maybe the creators did not want him to completely replace goku. Just as a side note the two moments I prefered  was when he turned ssj2 in Dbz and SSj4 in AF( even if not official but still cool)

Agreed.[]

However half saiyans can't go ssj3!

Keep in mind that Vegeta NEVER becomes an ssj3 within any Dragon Ball series, thus simply not being canon (like GT). Son Goku being the only individual to actually be able to achieve this particular transformation whilst not being fused, doesn't really seem that enthusiastic about teaching his own sons the various and diverse techniques and other special abilites that he picked up throughout his lifelong travels (I would loved to have seen an SSJ3 Vegeto).. Although there unfortunately wasn't ever any sort of Super Saiya-jin 3 Vegeta in any official full-length feature, nor short (aside from various fanart depictions and fantasies regarding their beloved, yet obnoxiously angry individual who seems to need a frequent dosage of tranquilizers, or maybe some secret, yet disturbing "naptime" sessions with Trunks after his stressful three days fighting and dying against the formiddable, yet retarded majin buu? How about some "dress-up time" with Trunks on his tenth birthday!? God, think about it. As I now pray towards your heavenly, yet imaginative light, please don't make Vegeta right. Also keep in mind, Vegeta can't be sent to prison, he can just KILL, KILL, KILL the motherfuckers! But, ...... of course there's no way that he can get past Gotenks (half revengeful), as well as Goku and Rice/Lunch (Gohan)), the addition of a Super saiyan Vegeta in about two DBZ games that I can think of (obviously Raging Blast I and II) added a fantastic depth of relief that the developers for these games, although usually unimaginative and downright increasenly non-complient with fan requests, I can barely breathe when I play those mock-up games(nearly, I really don't want to accept you folks, especially the people who decided to rant about Goku's breasts that he unwillfully married out of naivety with EXTREMELY BOLD CHARACTERS), OMFG, this is also a rant! Someone, shoot me now before I do it myself, preferably in front of my ex-step-mother!

Hey everyone! Notice alllllllllllll my comma splicing and seemingly completely incompetent usage of the English language! Even the grammer is absolute shit. Even if this is supposedly done on purpose, who gives a damn? I'm a nut, please edit me in a ridiculed way! In fact please invest upon the use of mocking me in all sorts of strange and dasterdly ways

WHAT! *cough*gotenks*cough*

I agree, but I'm Somewhat confused. How come Gohan being a Half Saiyan. have a three stages of growing (Kid,Teen,Adult) like a normal human whilst Goku being a full saiyan is only seen as a kid and an adult??

When the series first started, Goku's about 12 or 13. Plus, there are like 4 tournaments in DragonBall, each with a 3 year gap. Do the math. When he fought King Piccolo he even acted older and more mature and was a little taller

There was some episodes that show a teen Goku with the Power Pole and a teen Krillen with a Kid Gohan and there was the Garlic Jr. Movie.

Well -- I don't really think gotenks counts - hes a fused character :-\

but I could be wrong -- its just my best guess since no other unfused half saiyan has gone ss3 -- but thats beside the point that was just a side note, not really the point i was trying to get across. and for the post after the one I just responded to -- I don't really understand your question. Goku was seen as a teenager, dragonball spans from age 11 or 12 to when hes 18. So essentially all of dragonball shows a teenage goku.

Agreed[]

I am right with you on that and persionally i like teen and adult gohan (not counting gt) is better than all the characters casue he is tronger than all of the,he is stronger than his own dad, when he fights cell. And when he fights buu he is even stronger he gets so strong and people think he is shit cause in gt he stops fighting but just becasue he stopps fighting dose not mean he isnt strong, in gt he still has all of his power but he has no reason to use it until the end he has it all still inside him he just decides not to use it and in the new episodes he gets even stronger. So for al thos people who think gohan is crap and usless your wronge cause he rised his life for his dad and his freinds in more tha one ocassion, in my books goha is aweomse

I Completely Agree[]

However Half Saiyans can go SSJ3 Gotenks is clear proof even if hes fused hes still a Half-Saiyan. Ss4 gogetaLssj4 18:33, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Tenshinhanfan Tienintheotherworld 18:23, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

I think Gotenks IS a full saiyan(1/2+1/2=2/2) and full human

Actually, technically 2/2 is a 1, therefore full saiyan no human

Response: 1/2+1/2=2/4

Response:[]

Well I like kid gohan as well - but teen/adult gohan were just the ones in need of the most defending. And for the ssj3 Gotenks I guess your right -- since he would still be half saiyan half human even if he was fused. So I go back on what I said for that one thing (i just edited the post and deleted that part)

Brigi - (my response to the statement) I dont belive tht teen/adult gohan was the one that need the most of the defending becasue he prove to everyone when he was a kid that he was stronger that his own dad and when he was an adult he tried helping his dad but his dad would not let him, yes he got defended some times but he never wanted it...he always wanted to prove himself to his dad and his freinds that he can provid for him self and defend himself but they still help him and he is one amzingly strong kid

I agree[]

Adult Gohan I thought was the most interesting, because Gohan never wanted to be a fighter, and it was nice to see a character that wasn't obsessed with fighting. Plus to see him cope with school life with those powers was funny to see. People hate him because he doesn't like fighting, yet Teen Gohan may have become a Super Saiyan 2, he still tried to convince Cell before he transformed to stop fighting, so he didn't want to fight. I agree that Adult Gohan is far too criticised. I don't like Saiyaman though.

NO[]

We only hate Gohan cause he tried to replace Goku. Goku should always be the main character and he's always the best, he always wins even when the odds are against him unlike Gohan who never beat a main villain on his own, Goku gave him his energy to kill Cell so Goku's still responsible for killing Cell. In ssj3 it was hinted that at full power Goku could've killed Kid Buu who was much worse of an enemy than Super Buu because of his instinct, observation skills, mimicry talent, and wildness. Even Ultimate Gohan can't handle this.

I always liked Adult Gohan. I don't know why everyone's always bailin' on him. Btw, that was an amazing defense right there

~Goku Jr

welllllllll, if Gohan was made to replace Goku, wouldn't Gohan get killed and NOT brought back?

Response:[]

We'll have to agree to disagree on the cell/buu thing -- I have a feeling neither of us would be able to convince the other. I'm not sure if Akira Toriyama created Gohan to replace Goku -- but I never got that impression.

Out of who knows how many villians (not including garlic jr.) Gohan only defeated one -- I would hardly call that replacing Goku. Although I did hear that Gohan was originally suppose to be the one to defeat buu, but that Toriyama changed it after a fan outcry. So if you choose to include this hypothetical one, its still only two villians out of dozens.

I always thought the presence of Gohan enhanced Gokus character. For one, it showed what a bad ass Goku is since his eldest son ends up being the most powerful z fighter (since the eldest son is often viewed as a reflection of the father).

I have to say something here... The eldest son is not viewed as a reflection of the father in the Dragonball universe. The second-born son is. Goku more closely resembled Bardock than Raditz did and the same can be said for Goten. He looks far more like Goku than Gohan does. As close a Vegeta looks to his father, Tarble looks even more so. As far as Vegeta criticizing Gohan's work ethic, he was basing it off a Saiyan's work ethic which, let's face it, could never be matched. A saiyan's job was to train so that they could conquer planets. They kept what they pillaged. Gohan was afforded something Vegeta and, to an extent, Goku were never given... A long period of peace through their adolescent years. Goku didn't see true peace until he was 18 (between Piccolo and Saiyan Sagas)... Vegeta didn't truly have peace until after the Cell Games! They had to continue training. Someone has always been there to bail Gohan out. He never really had to do anything until the Cell games. I don't have a problem with Gohan... I really hate when people call him "Mystic" and I really hate the form. While Vegeta and Goku trained for years to earn their strength, Gohan had his powers "awakened" TWICE. A guy named SSJGozar said it best... "Mystic??? Mystic's not a form, it's just a fan term... Oh.... I sit in front of some old guy for a day and all of a sudden... I'm Mystic..." He doesn't even change forms... his bangs get a little longer. Like I said, I like him... Just loathe that term. He is Ultimate Gohan. I also don't think he's stronger than a SSJ3 in the form we saw at the end of DBZ. If he were to have gone super saiyan after his "workout" with Old Kai, then one can only imagine the depths of his power. Remember, they never said that he couldn't become a super saiyan after his "training"... they just said he wouldn't have to. And that would be my biggest complaint about GT. Gohan should be so much stronger once he becomes a super saiyan in GT. Old Kai's awakening and super saiyan's exponmential power increase should make Gohan nearly indestructable. Dragonball was about Goku's childhood to adulthood, Dragonball Z was about Gohan's childhood to adulthood, and Dragonball GT was supposed to be about Pan's childhood to adulthood. Toriyama did origianlly intend to pass the torch of savior to Gohan and Goten near the end of DBZ, but he decided that Gohan's character (personality) was too weak to make a good leading role, so Goku remained the main hero throughout. In the end, the main writers of GT (whoever they are) decided to pass that on to Vegeta. I don't think Gohan is unfairly criticized because Vegeta and Goku were right. His lack of training did make him weaker when he fought Dabura. In fact, he only really trained twice the entire length of the story (before Vegeta and Nappa arrived, under Piccolo, and with Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber before fighting Cell). Any other time, he just conveniently had his powers "awakened" or just did some rock-dodging. He still had his awakened SSJ2 power. It doesn't just leave. He just got weaker because, with Goku dead, Chi Chi made him study instead of train. He's like anyone else... without practice, your skills deteriorate. Compared to Goku and Vegeta (who had both continuously trained for 7 years), Gohan was much weaker. Supreme Kai mistook Gohan's power as the strongest at the tournament because it was the only power he had seen to that point. Goku and Vegeta had not yet raised their power level so Supreme Kai didn't know they could. Remember how surprized he was when Vegeta so easily destoyed Pui Pui, someone thought to be one of the strongest in the universe? Gohan didn't become the strongest until he sat with the Old Kai and had his powers awakened. And about Gohan "wanting" to be a scholar... Gohan never really "wanted" to be a scholar, it was forced on him by Chi Chi. She didn't want him to turn out like his father. If he did "want" to be a scholar, it was because he felt guilty and that he owed it to his mother to honor her wish. I guess I need to apologize for the rant now. Just get staarted and it keeps going and going.

Also, would you really want the main character (meaning Goku) to die without leaving any trace of himself on earth? Having a son on earth showed how Goku viewed himself as an "earthling," added a new dimension to his character, and i think actually motivated him to become more powerful through the desire to protect his family. One example being in the frieza saga. Seeing his friend die was horrible but it failed to become the "need" that Goku needed in order to transform. He transformed into a super saiyan for the first time (in the original japanese version) only after Frieza threatened to kill Gohan too. Now, if Gohan could go SSJ4, and had trained for those 7 peaceful years, that would be a completely different story. I don't think that there ever would have been the need for a SSJ4 Gogeta.

I Complety Agree[]

I hate how people usually think that adult gohan is really weak and lazy and everything. But from the points you make, it clearfully says the gohan isn't all that lazy and weak. Love it!

Nice argument[]

It made me realize how truely successful Gohan is in dbz. He is super smart and is the worlds strongest fighter. I think at his age he has more fighting experiance then Goku. He killed cell at around the same age we were intoduced to Goku. Now GT Gohan from what if heard looks like a wimp compared to during Z when he was owning super buu.

well he focused on being a father and a husband, not a fighter. of course he got a bit weaker since he is now facing villains far above super buu

BTW did Gohan have the chance to take on super buu.

Response:[]

I'm glad I convinced you guys!

And to respond to "Nice Argument" -- Yeah I know Gohan did have a chance to take on Super Buu (which are some of my favorite episdoes of the show). But, originally ultimate Gohan was suppose to win against Super Buu -- but goku fans hated the idea and managed to sway Toriyama to instead make Goku the hero.

wrong fake rumour. he was never swayed by any fan. give him some credit and read the interviews. he said he felt gohan was unsuitable for the hero role.

And in terms of the GT thing, personally I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist. I disliked the series so much, and the fact it was not based on Toriyamas orignal manga

yes it was. theres no way they can use his characters and universe history without reading his manga first.

(I don't care how much oversight he had) permits me to completely erase it from my mind. So, anything that happened during GT I don't consider (since to me it has nothing to do with dragonball or dragonball z). Basically, "wimpy" Gohan simply does not exist for me :)

nor does it for anyone since gohan was never wimpy.

BTW did i say super buu i ment to say kid buu sorrySSJ4 Vegito 11:42, June 6, 2011 (UTC)

Agree...Unfairly Criticized[]

I liked adult Gohan, in Z at least. Haven't seen enough of GT to know. Sure he got a lot weaker from the Cell saga, but he wasn't obsessed with training to the same degree Vegeta and Goku were. He had other interests like studying in order to get a high paying job. Plus who knows, he may have kept up his training but after 2 or 3 years of no action he decided Earth wasn't in peril anymore. It's sort of like your parents making you play violin even though you don't really like it. Sure you could keep practicing and maybe get really good at it, but you'd much rather spend your time doing something else. Probably the same for GT. He had a real job, not to mention a wife and child, so he didn't have much time or motivation for training.

I largely agree with you, and you make some great points. After becoming Mystic Gohan, he is definitely more powerful than Vegeta, though I personally believe Vegeta was stronger than him before this, and SS3 Goku was stronger even afterwards.

I know you said that you discount GT, but it gives further examples of his power when he easily fights SS1 Goten in human form, and is afraid to transform lest he accidentally kill his(apparently much weaker)younger brother. However, Goku does clearly outclass him in SS3 in this series, as Gohan actually seems very concerned when Goku threatens to transform.

One interesting seeming inconsistency in this series is that when Baby comes to earth he states that he's hunting the 'most powerful Saiyan after Goku...Vegeta!' As far as we can tell, Vegeta could only go SS2 at this point, which would make him much weaker than Gohan, unless Gohan had indeed simply stopped training entirely after Z. Most likely however, Baby was simply mistaken.

But, I digress. All I want to say is that I agree with you, and personally I really like Gohan.

Agreed. Or whatever.[]

I think most of the ire towards post-Cell Games Gohan comes from his "Great Saiyaman" act. Considering how "badass" he was when he went SS2, it was probably quite the throwback.

Me? I didn't care. Gohan was just simply experiencing the Super Saiyan rage, at the time (just like his father during Freeza). Why should that permenetly affect his character? He's a pure-hearted dork. But even then he isn't completely infallible. Gohan was nerd since the beginning. An older version of him going all goofy in his high school days wasn't out of character.

I think other reasons include that he isn't a warrior at heart, unlike Goku, Vegeta and so many other characters. Considering DBZ's premise is essentially manly-men beating the crap out of each other, you can imagine the type of people that would attract. So, naturally, Gohan's lack of machismo didn't do well for them. While I personally think that made Gohan the most interesting of the bunch. He's the hero who we can relate to, rather then the hero we admire.

Finally, I think any other reasons stem from Goku-fanboys, who just keep whacking any ideas due to them loving their status quo so much. They proably just felt threatened that, for once, Goku wasn't the strongest neither the hero. They ultimately got what they wanted with the conclusion Buu saga, but I imagine they must still feel sore over it.

One person here actually said Goku lent his power to Gohan to beat Cell, which is obviously just a big fat lie. A shining example of what I mean.

wheres your proof goku fanboys got butthurt? oh right you were just making up whatever felt fit to you. no facts, just lies about how goku fans got upset. reaaal useful, you are. now get out and stop spreading lies. the goku fans were probably happy with how he did EVERYTHING in gt and frieza arc. i would be more upset as a frieza fan and gohan fan with how he was thrown aside to make way for goku.

- Oh, pull the stick out of your arse. I don't think I did anything to deserve that kind of treatment. I didn't think I needed any 'evidence', either; I thought most Dragon Ball fans were already aware how extreme some Goku-fanboys could be. Just browse any DBZ message forum (or YouTube, for good measure) long enough, and you're bound to find at least one Goku fan trying to discredit Gohan's achievements, and insist on how Goku's more suited to be the main character.

I'm not grouping all Goku fans together and calling them a bunch of Gohan-hating nutjobs. If they prefer him over Gohan, then fine. I just don't like it when people deliberately fail to acknowledge Gohan's accomplishments. For the record, I didn't think I had to tell facts: This is a discussion thread, not an article, so I thought it perfectly safe to state assumptions based on personal experiences.

Yup[]

I think in the Saiyaman saga he brought that comical humor that the cell saga was lacking. Like you said he's some very smart person who just wants the normal life. And as some people say he didn't defeat a main villain coughgokujrcough he actually was the one who defeated Vegeta. I think hes pretty cool.SSJ Dude (talk)

Agreed[]

I think he was a percectly fine character. I know there was a backlash about passing the torch from Goku to Gohan, but hey, you can't hold the decisions of the creator against the character. They did make him a little dorky, but that comes with the scholar territory. I think he turned out the way he should have.

The only time I really criticized Gohan was in GT and that's mostly because of his character design. But then, I wasn't really satisfied with any of the character designs...

Agreed...[]

I agree with this.

Though Goku was 19 at the end of DB and 24 in the Raditz battle.

Teen Gohan is the Cell Games Gohan....I call the Buu Saga Gohan Adult Gohan because he's 18 in that time frame. (11 at Cell Games, 11+7=18)

he wasnt 18. the narrator clearly says hes 16 in buu arc and 9 against cell.

I'm Gonna Sing the Doom Song Now! 02:35, June 22, 2011 (UTC)User:Solo28

During the Cell Saga in the Anime Gohan was 11, and In the Manga he was 9. (11=7+18 and 9+7+16) So the age of Gohan isn't really accurate. Also in the Video Games they describe The SSJ2 Gohan as Teen Gohan and the Majin Buu Saga Gohan is an adult.

--I'M A SUPEER SAIYAN 04:01, August 16, 2014 (UTC)

I agree also; but just to add a short note; the obvious power between SSJ2 Teen Gohan and Adult Gohan around when fighting Dabura is obvious, as derped by Vegeta. HOWEVER, I personally find Adult Gohan stronger, because he is now alot older, and almost has an "urge" to fight people at that point and onwards, rather than preaching his enemies into the ways of peace, like his teen self often did, or completely refuse to fight/be afraid to fight. It is due to this that I personally find Teen Gohan stronger, as he is more committed and experienced in fights at that point. [ I saw this first when he went in and attacked Dabura, then went underwater, firing an energy blast as a distraction before kicking Dabura into a mountain in his BASE form

filler. he never fought dabura in base in the manga

, I can't really remember Kid Gohan being able to fight like that, it tended to be more reckless and rash, I could be wrong, it's been a while xD]

Response:[]

You guys made alot of good points too -- I didn't really bring up the consistency of his character (e.g. dork -- I mean that in a good way of course)

And to the most recent post -- I don't really consider 11 as a "teen" - and to me being 18 is still considered being a teenager -- Its only once you hit that twenty mark that your not

But as a side note -- I think the actual manga had Gohan as 16 unlike the anime that said 18

Agree[]

I Agree with your views, Gohan is Awesome!

I Completely Agree[]

I seriously don't get why people are always hating on Gohan. Personally, he is my favorite character, and always will be. If Chi-Chi didn't make him study for those 7 years, I think that he would have gone SSJ3 before goku. I agree, GT doesn't exist, so there is no form beyond SSJ3, besides ultimate Gohan. It was never stated that a half blood saiyan couldn't go beyond SSJ2. When Goku was 19, His power level was around 400, when Gohan was that age his power level was 450,000,000. Enough said. You were right, he is like the Ultimate Z Fighter. He is a successful Scholar, and is the strongest unfused character in the series, stated by Akira Toriyama, so anyone who thinks SSJ3 Goku is more powerful than Ultimate Gohan is obviously wrong. Ultimate Gohan outclasses SSJ3 Goku by a decent amount.

NO SSJ3 SonGoku is stronger then ultimate SonGohan(movie 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Disagree.[]

I understand that Adult Gohan turned out to be success, however the beef everyone has with Adult Gohan was with his awkward and embarassing personality. His story arc (Saiyaman) was very unlike Dragonball. Dragonball fans watched Kid Gohan bravely overcome his initial cowardlyness to partake in fights far above his ability. The occasional awesome moments of Kid Gohan, such as scenes of him beating up Freiza or Vegeta, simply earned the fan's respect for him. He had some of the best character development in the series up to Teen Gohan, who killed the invincible Cell using his hidden power that we've been seeing little amounts of throughout the series.

Then the timeskip happened and Gohan had a personality swap. He had high expectations to live up to, and it was blown on a story arc of watching the Gohan we know and live act like an awkward superhero while the main character was away. Imagine a teenager (at the time) staring and begging at his television for his favorite character to show some resemblance of how he was before his lobotomy. Sure, by the end of the series, he retained the title of Strongest and Smartest DBZ Character, but at a cost.

I know I'm being harsh, but I don't hate Adult Gohan. As an analogy, if I order a large linguini, I won't mind getting back a small spaghetti and a small linguini. Just don't give me a large spaghetti. Or spaghetti and linguini mixed up together.

Gohan rebuttal[]

I would have to disagree with you on Gohan being the most powerful being in the DBZ series on the grounds of a means to an end. While he may posses the means to be the strongest, he lacks the ends. Throughout the entire saga, even when he vastly overpowered his opponent, he continued to lose. What good is power if you can't utilize it for its purpose. Starting with the Sayian saga and losing to the sabiaman, Nappa and Vegta. Moving to the namek saga and losing to Guldo, Racoome, and Frieza.

Gohan never fought a Saibaman, most of them were killed by Krillin in a single attack and the other blew himself up to kill Yamcha. Also, Gohan was responsible for finishing off Vegeta in the Saiyan saga and was the only Saiyan besides Vegeta who was able to control himself while transformed into a great ape. He was also the one who bounced the spirit bomb back at Vegeta, then went toe to toe with him for awhile although Vegeta was weakened at that time. Then, he became a great ape and was able to control that power, something Goku never did.

Gohan was only five years old at the start of DBZ, yet when Raditz put Gohan into his space ship while waiting for Goku, his scouter showed Gohan's power level to be 710 which was more than double Goku's when he was fully powered up. When Gohan tapped into his hidden power, Gohan was more than five times stronger than Goku. Gohan, although he was unable to control his power, was the strongest Z fighter for most of DBZ.

As far as Guldo, he froze time which is a cheap move in and of itself. Gohan also saved Vegeta's life when he fought Recoome, then even managed to hurt Recoome more than Vegeta did.

As far as Frieza, Gohan was the first one of the bunch to hurt Frieza while he was in his second transformation. Piccolo was the only other one able to hurt Frieza in this form after he fused with Nail. Gohan was also the only one to overpower Frieza in his third form although it backfired. As strong as Vegeta was at that time, even he knew Gohan was stronger than him. Later on in this saga when Gohan returns to distract Frieza long enough so that he would blow up with Namek, he managed to hurt Frieza in his final form as well, though not very much. Aside from Goku, Gohan was the only other character to even be able to lay a finger on Frieza while in his final transformation.

Next the android, which he doesn't fight. Followed by Cell, which yes he technically won, but let's be realistic. He has the power and the ability yet stalls and forces goku to sacrifice himself, then with the sole help of goku managed to beat cell (on his own, he would have lost.)

Technically? Gohan won because his father inspired him and reminded him who he was. Gohan defeated Cell with his own power and was often able to tap into it when he saw his friends or family being hurt. Goku and Vegeta also toyed with their enemies quite a bit which got them into trouble. Goku toyed with Frieza, allowing him to fully power up to 100% knowing Frieza was worried Goku would attack him before he finished powering up and ultimately let him live and had to be killed by Trunks later which ultimately caused the entire Cell saga to happen. Vegeta allowed Cell to reach his perfect form just for sport and toyed with almost everyone he fought, often overestimating his power, underestimating his opponents and losing a lot of fights. On his own, he would have lost? Cell didn't even touch Gohan and Gohan was barely trying and killed all of the Cell Jr.'s single handedly when no one else even had a chance. He was much stronger even after he saved Vegeta's life and took heavy damage on purpose. Gohan was able to beat Cell with his own power and Goku's encouragement. Besides, Goku wasn't strong enough to beat Cell and he knew all along that Gohan was stronger than him, much stronger. The tables were set for Gohan to become the new hero all the way up to when he beat Cell, but fans wanted Goku back.

Goku's weakness was his merciful heart, Vegeta's weakness was his arrogance and overconfidence in his own power and Gohan's weakness was that he didn't like to fight. I believe Gohan got his "hidden power" from Chi Chi, who often erupted into fits of anger and rage to where she scared everyone. She wasn't as bad as Launch, but only because she didn't shoot everyone. Gohan was born with a gift that not even Goku was born with, but Gohan's human half often held him back though his Saiyan side seemed to be stronger than even Goku and Vegeta's were.

Then we have the Babidi saga in which Gohan fails to beat Dabura, and stop buu from Hatching. Continuing on to the Buu saga in which he loses repeatedly, finally Has the strength to when, and what does he do, the same thing as in the Cell saga, fails to follow Through. Which inevitably leads to him being absorbed and the world destroyed.

Yeah, he failed to beat Dabura and everyone failed to beat Majin Buu until Goku and Vegeta fused together. Again, all three of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan routinely toyed with their enemies, it just seems to be a Saiyan thing and it backfired more than once on all three characters. Aside from the Red Ribbon Army, I'm having trouble remembering anyone Goku actually killed except for Buu. Not Frieza or Cell. Vegeta lost many battles, Goku lost many battles (Tambourine, Jackie Chun, Tien, Mercinary Tao, Raditz (technically Piccolo, but Goku was outmatched by Raditz until Gohan attacked and weakened him), Vegeta, Captain Ginyu, Cell etc..), so all of them lost many battles, but when Gohan tapped into his true power, even as a child and on Namek, he proved to be stronger than everyone except Goku until Gohan surpassed him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

Let's follow this up by movies, in the worlds strongest, he loses to dr wheelo. Tree of might, Gohanamages to attack and hurt goku, and fails to beat turles. Lord slug, Gohan loses to The henchmen and lord slug. Cooler's revenge, Gohan gets in the way causing a devastating blow to goku. Super android 13, Gohan loses again. 1st broly, he loses again, 2nd broly, won off a family Kamahama, not on his own. Bojack unbound, is losing until goku punches bojack from the dead. Wrath of the dragon, Gohan transforms to his ultimate form and still depended on tapions flute. Later on the same movie ss3 gotenks and goku do more damage then Gohan, who shoul by all accounts be the strongest as the elder Kai ability surpassed ss3, yet he still lost twice. Finally ending with the history of trunks in which Gohan is killed by android 17&18.

In conclusion, I could care less how strong Gohan may or may not be since the saga shows how pointless his strength actually is. He repeatedly loses and fails to win when he has the upper hand. Furthermore, he was clearly weaker and out of practice when he became an adult. Teen Gohan would easily defeat adult Gohan because teen Gohan was stronger, Faster and practiced. Not to mention the supreme Kai was continually surprised by the sayians ability and remarked that he should have kept better tabs. He based his comment off Gohan being the strongest from cell saga, as ss3 is clearly stronger and became apparent before the elder Kai ability was even possible.

First off, movies are not canon. Nuff said.

Clearly stronger? Don't you remember when Buu was waiting for the strongest fighter in the world, as he was promised, he said he could feel that fighter, who was far, far away. That fighter was Gohan that he sensed, not Goku or Vegeta. When Gohan arrives, Buu said he had been waiting for him. That is yet more proof that Ultimate Gohan was way stronger than Goku or Vegeta. Buu used a sneaky trick to get Gohan as apparently, the parts of Buu that absorbed Gotenks and Gohan did not give off any energy to sense. I believe that a fused Goku/Ultimate Gohan combination would have been stronger than Goku/Vegeta were.

Toriyama himself said that at the end of DBZ, Gohan was the strongest non-fused character yet you insist on saying ss3 is "clearly stronger" than Ultimate Gohan. Talk about arrogance, go take that up with Toriyama, you know, the one who created it and would know better than anyone who was stronger. He has already said it was Gohan, so that's all there is to say about that. If you think you know better than the creator, then you're just a fool.

That's why he is critisized![]

The things that make me dislike Gohan.

1.Gohan has the power to beat cell once and for all.Instead he is toeing with him making goku sacrifice himself to save the earth.Same thing against buu.

2.Gohan's lack of training really make him weaker.Vegeta is always cocky but he can understand if gohan was weaker or not. After all gohan was using everything he had against Dabura.

3.WTF with that hidden power of his,Goku and Vegeta are training all thei lives and gohan becomes the most powerfull fighter with a silly ritual.

Gohan is stronger than anybody at his age (goku and vegeta) but think of the type of training he had.Gohan was trained by goku (a super sayan) and piccolo who was realy strong.Goku in his age was trained by master roshi and his grandpa while vegeta was training against saibaimen.

I Agree[]

Adult Gohan is Over criticized, i mean Ultimate Gohan is really powerful, almost as strong as SSJ3 GokuEmperorPeelaugh575TalkContribGuide0w 19:34, March 24, 2012 (UTC)EmperorPeelaugh575

First off I'm a huge Gohan fan and want to correct some people.

1. Goku didnt give Gohan power to kill Cell so actually he did kill a main villain. Goku talked to Gohan and guided him to defeat Cell theres a difference.

2. Sure Vegeta and Goku spent all their lives training but Gohan is naturally strong. My guess is Saiyans get stronger each generation as you can see Gohan, Trunks, and Goten were able to become super saiyans as children. Gohan was just lucky enough to be born with great power kinda like Broly.

3. The Ritual Ultimate Gohan went through was to bring out his hidden power permanently.

4. Imagine how powerful Gohan would have been if he did continue to train as much as Goku or Vegeta he would be the most powerful DBZ character.

my main problem with Gohan and what a lot of people i think hate about him is that his power was given to him plain and simple. we love Goku because he trains hard to overcome obstacles literally becoming stronger with faliure. When things get tough for Goku we find ourselves rooting for him. Gohan seems to just dip into his hidden power when the going gets tough, sort of like bringing an assult rifle to a fist fight. They wanted someone to pass the torch too, so they cheated basically to create a character with the power to hold it, howerver Gohan doesnt want the torch (another thing i can't stand, people who hate to use their own power). At first i really liked the idea of the son of the ledgendary Goku having human emotions and weaknesses such as his fear in battle but his skill never rose to meet his power so instead of becoming an asset it became a cop out. Then came ultimate Gohan one of the most dissapointing things to ever happen in DBZ, instant invincibility is not what DBZ is about, there was no hardship or earning of this power, he just had it awakened AGAIN, and failed AGAIN, and what in the end killed buu? Goku's hard work, support from earth and vegeta's refusal to die against a more powerful enemy.

secondly people on here refering too Goku's power level at Gohan's age are grasping at straws. Goku was trained by roshi and fought HUMAN BEINGS who become irrelevent as of the arrival of Raditz, other than the Kamehameha wave energy attacks were seldom seen. Gohan was taught by Piccilo, and he was taught visciously. Also it does seem that half sayains have a tendency to develop early, by the time goten is 7 years old SS1 is literally childs play.

playing with your enemies is a flaw all of the Z fighters share i'll admit Gohan cant be criticised to badly for his fight with magin buu after becoming ultimate, Vegeta would have done the same. (Vegeta is bad ass, the sickest attitude the original sayain warrior his life is a compettition with Goku. Just wanna say that i would have liked DBZ to end with Vegeta finally equalling Goku in power as he's kind of earned it, also dont get why Goku just doesnt teach anyone instant transmission or SS3 ?!!? not really relevent but you know im just sayain)

Ultimately it comes down to Gohan never needing to rely on skill having either his father, piccilo or his "hidden power" to fight his battles for him.

P.S. people hating on GT, yeas it does pretty much disregard the whole of DBZ in terms of characters respective fighting ability and vegeta cuts his hair despite pure sayains never needing to do so, but it was great to have the best show on earth back for a while and with the young fresh faced Goku we didnt see for so long, and of course ... SS4 made my life, then the SS4 fusion of Goku and Vegeta killed me.

TFS[]

as the TFS DBZA put it

I CAN SEE THE FUTURE

BULMA AND VEGETA HAVE A KID

THE REAL BUU IS A CHILD

CELL REACHES PERFECT FORM

GOTEN AND TRUNKS BECOME A GUY

GOHAN BECOMES THE STRONGEST IN THE UNIVERSE BUT STILL DOESN'T DO CRAAAAAP!

Gohan was the strongest non-fused character, but he lost to a combination of fat buu (and all the energy he gained from all the people of earth that he ate), evil buu, piccolo, SS3 gotenks and most of the other Z fighters (except Tien). That's a bit much to expect of even Ultimate Gohan and SS3 Goku didn't do any better. Buu was kind of like a "Super Cell" and had enormous power even as fat buu alone. Gohan can't really be blamed for not beating Super Buu.

I Don't Argue with Those Points But...[]

When I (and I believe many others) say he's weak, I don't mean he's physically weak, I mean he's a coward. He's a fear-ridden pushover who totally lacks confidence. While his lack of confidence is understandle and to be expected when he's 7 years old, it's annoying when he's an adult. Further, his anxiety in high school wasn't something funny and relatable like an extreme shyness around girls it was about his secret identity being figured out. That's lame. It was an overreaction and seemed manufactured and fake. I hated Gohan all through that era. I only started to gain a liking for him when they started to give him depth again (his fear fighting Dabura, feelings of inadequacy and happiness about making his father proud again). That offered some redemption for his character.

Not me. He was nothing more than a flat boring Gary stu who stole the spotlight of much better characters

I don't think it's fair to call Gohan a coward because he has done so many brave things. Just because he was freaking out during the Saiyan saga doesn't really mean anything because Gohan was a little kid who, up until that point had never been exposed to battle. It's not fair to compare Gohan to Goku who grew up in the wilderness and was, let's be honest, a strange little kid with no sense of preservation. Goku would go off and do whatever whenever with no fear, not so much because he was brave, but because he just didn't have fear. He was an extraordinary person, yes, but he was not a Normal Human Being. Yet Gohan was. He was a boy who had to learn and grow in fighting and he didn't always have everything come easy to him yet he persisted. That's what's awesome about him. AND he was hella brave when it counted most. Against Freiza, Against Bojack, Against Garlic Jr, Against Radditz, Against Cell, Against Super Buu, I mean he's had so many triumphs. You can't really fault him for being scared at some points- that's natural. I mean Yamcha and company got scared but no-one ever talks about that because they weren't saiyans. News flash, just because Gohan is half-saiyan doesn't mean he's immune to his human side. I mean really. There are a lot of things about Gohan that are/were awesome, which is why it bothers me that Akira just let Gohan lose his edge.

Okay let me tell you what I think[]

I agree completely with your argument of defending Gohan. And yes he and his fellow half blood comrades achieved super saiyan way earlier than Goku and Vegeta. But, the reason he got that strong was due to them having to go to Namek and having his potential unlocked.

He was stronger than Goku at age five, long before anyone had even heard of Namek.

He went into outerspace at age seven or eight and yes Vegeta was in outer space alot due to him being a saiyan and knowing of his heritage. But Gohan used to the gravity level of Earth was easily made stronger by the Namekian gravity which is twice Earth's gravity. Gohan just walking around should've made himself way stronger based on that. Now remember Goku never went into outerspace besides his childhood when he left planet vegeta his first 23 years of life since he landed on Earth have been there. If Goku had've went somewhere I'm pretty sure he and his friends would be crazy strong by now.

King Kai's planet had 10x earth's gravity. I don't remember hearing anything about Namek's gravity being twice earth's gravity. Bulma didn't have any problems moving around. I think all the training and fighting Goku did as a child on top of being the only person to ever drink the divine sacred water and survive makes up for never training in heavier gravity. He also climbed Korin's tower twice, no one else did that.

Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, and maybe Chiatzou would've been able to hold there own against the saiyans and not die. Also when Gohan was eleven he went into the hyperbolic time chamber which drives weak men crazy. But, unlike Goku's first time in it he wasn't alone when he went. He was cheered on by his father who helped him get used to the empty space in the HBTC.

Goku didn't enter the same time chamber in DB that he did in DBZ with Gohan. They were two different places, at least in the anime. There's really no comparison. The training that Krillin, Yamcha, Tien and Chiaotzu went through when they trained at the lookout (when they fought against Saiyans in another time) was what the "time room" training that Goku had. They all said they wanted the same training Goku had when he trained under Kame and that's what they got. It was not the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, that was a completely different thing.

Gohan achieved alot more in life when it comes to education while Goku roamed freely and earned money fighting. He completed his dream Goku completed his dream of fighting stronger fighters. School isn't for everyone look at Rocky movies if you don't believe me. Some people have to adjust to the flow of things better. Vegeta on the other hand had multiple chances to increase his strength faster and accomplish super saiyan. He knew he was a saiyan and went into multiple planets. He could've gotten stronger than everyone in DBZ so is negative comments during Gohan vs Dabura were probably jealousy. I agree with your paragraph completely but someone has to defend Goku still.

Counter-point.[]

I think the reason that Gohan gets so much hate is because he doesn't fit the mentality of the other characters. Unlike Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and the older characters, Gohan doesn't really fit the stoic, warrior mindset of the other characters. He always maintains that sort of light-hearted, goofy, child-like attitude throughout the series, and I guess some people would much rather see the angry, shouty Goku and Vegeta personalities shine through instead of that.

I didn't get a light hearted attitude from him. I got that from Goku. Gohan felt so robotic, and most of the things he did felt painfuly forced. But what really annoyed me is that he was determined to hog the spotlight of much better characters.

My Rant (Not Trying to be annoying)[]

1. No he was not training hard enough. He was may have done some training, but he should have known better. You would think after nearly being killed by Cell, and witnessing people die all around him, that he would train at his very best. Not only this, but witnessing his own father's death should have been enough to make him train harder. Gohan was just really pathetic during the 7 year time period that would pass.

2. You can always get stronger, there is no true limit in the Dragonball Universe. We see this at Dragonball. At the beginning of Dragonball Goku's Limit for the next 11 years would be 1000(He started at like 50, and kept increasing from constanly fighting, and training). But at The End of DBZ his power was well over the million without even powering up to super saiyan.

3. I agree with you there, Gohan isn' t weak, but he is a little overrated.

4. I agree with you there too, if we didn't study, and devoted all our lives to fighting we wouldn't be bright. So Gohan was doing the right thing there.

5. He never wanted to be a scholar, Chi Chi made him be a Scholar basically, because she didn't want Gohan to turn out like a fighter.

6. I don't know how to debate about that statement

Gohan's Ultimate VS SS3[]

If Gohan was to fight Goku as a SS3 Gohan would probably win because he wouldnt need to worry about being drained so drastically because he never needed to transform plus Gohan fought even with Buu/Gotenks/Piccolo, where is Goku straight away was struggling. It is also hard to use Wrath of the dragon because the movies all have problems with consistancy and GT seems to forget all that happened in DBZ (In every fight after the Ginyu Force to even stand a chance they needed to become a Super Saiyan yet a kid fights Rildo who is stronger thatn Buu in his normal form, plus they seemed to get rid of super saiyan 2, SS3 which was all powerful in DBZ is used to not even cause a scratch on any of the villians). I suppose we can always speculate but unless we saw Gohan fight Kid Buu then we will never now.

Okay, here's my thoughts[]

The things that might've turned people off about Gohan was: him being a coward during his early days, him slacking off from fighting during the seven year gap, his Saiyaman persona (I did not like that idea), him lacking a thirst to fight like his dad, and, maybe, him being a nerd in his later years. But we are forgetting something: Gohan used to be pretty badass. He was able to get his full potential unlocked by the Elder Kai in just a day and was kicking the crap out of Super Buu before absorbing everyone else; he took on Frieza despite him being weaker than Frieza, as a kid; he was whooping Cell left and right when he became a Super Saiyan 2; and he sent Garlic Jr back to the Dead Zone TWICE. You cannot say that Gohan is a punk, a weakling or anything related to that. I liked the fact that there was at least one person in DBZ who wanted to be more than a fighter and lead a normal life. The only things that really bothered me was when his hair got shorter and him being Saiyaman (which was REALLY annoying. I Almost completely agree[]

You have actually changed my opinion of Gohan. your arguments were good and valid, and made a lot of sense. However, I am still not a very big fan of his personallity, and that is where a lot of people draw the line. but that is point of view, not to mention that we all have our personality quirks. good job, after reading this, Gohan has moved up on my list.

--SSJSensar912Gogeta 13:09, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

I Think The Same![]

Gohan (or even the characters deemed "useless" for that matter) does not deserve all of this. I mean, being a "nerd" was his personal choice. It's a big breath of very fresh air from the mountains to see a character not obsessed with fighting.

And after all, him not standing fighting is understandable. Chi-Chi nurtured him for a major part of his life, of course he would lose the Saiyan will of fighting and become more human.

You are Referring to Saiyaman Saga Gohan right[]

Cuz Teen Gohan refers to the one in Cell Saga. I'd say that Cell is on par with Teen Gohan, and significantly stronger than Adult Gohan. You are a pawn in a game you don't even know is being played 15:26, June 29, 2012 (UTC)

My thoughts[]

I agree that Gohan seems to get a lot of flack. The main reasons for it are because A) Someone thinks Gohan is amazing and didn't quite live up to his potential or B) Someone thinks Gohan is annoying and took up too much of the spotlight. He seems to be a polarizing character which is actually a testament to his legitimate depth, that his characterization is able to spark such a debate. I fall into Category A.

I love Gohan; however, even I can admit that he most likely faltered in training a bit post-Cell Era. This is acceptable since there was no danger and Gohan had no incentive to push himself to become stronger like Vegeta did. Gohan had forgotten how to use his old power, yada yada. However, I still feel like the way Akira portrayed him after the Cell series made him seem weaker in comparison to Goku and Vegeta. Just because Vegeta achieved SSJ2 during the time skip does not mean that he was automatically stronger than Gohan. In fact, I always have operated under the belief that Gohan was the strongest SSJ2 ever to exist due to the fact that all of his *hidden rage powers* acted as a booster to the normal power of a SSJ2. Thus, SSJ2 full-powered Gohan would be stronger than SSJ2 Vegeta and Goku. Logically, it would follow that Gohan in any saiyan form following would also be stronger than Goku and Vegeta because of his *hidden rage powers*. Yet, Akira just kind of floundered and made Gohan mystic and basically rendered him irrelevant leading up to the final stages of the Buu Saga. This is annoying to me, because Gohan had been involved in the same adventures and done the same fighting up until this point as Vegeta and Goku. So why not give him a more important role? That is my critique of "Gohan". It doesn't have so much to do with Gohan as how his character was essentially wasted following Cell-saga. He was supposed to be a great hero, but he mainly just ended up letting his Dad do the work in the end. I have no problem with Goku being the main hero, but that to me does not justify Gohan suddenly becoming veritable filler until Vegeta and Goku "the-real-heroes" show up. In my opinion, Gohan easily should be considered on par with Vegeta and Goku, yet he is underestimated and people write him off.

I will concede that Vegeta and Goku compared to Gohan when un-angered would be stronger. But the whole point to Gohan's character was to emphasize the hidden strength that comes in seemingly harmless packages. Gohan's personality is passive and reserved compared to the other Z fighters, yet he was given that great anger as a power source which makes him the strongest of all. That's what was cool about Gohan; someone kind and meek could have such vast hidden power linked to ire. Post-Cell saga lost sight of that. Gohan lost his edge... Akira just let it happen.

Now Gohan in any form is great. He's a bit dorky, yep. He can be a bit cowardly when he doesn't feel like confrontation is necessary. He had some awkward times growing up, so what? That is part of life and Gohan's life is the most realistic in Dragonball Z. We've all had those times. And Yeah he had a stretch as a superhero, sure. It was corny. It was hard to sit through, but it was also a testament to Gohan's empathy for people and his desire to help others, much like Goku. So why knock that? He's smart too, so he can do other things than fight. Perfect. He can grow up and have a real job. That's something to be applauded, not criticized. BUT while all those things are fine, that doesn't mean that Gohan had to lose that other side of himself. The angry, compulsive, agitated side of himself. That is the side that made him a warrior, and that made him fit into the context of Battle. That's the side of him that supplies such a great power and makes him formidable. But Gohan lost that part of himself in the time-skip. And that rendered him more or less useless in the fighting. And Dragonball Z is about fighting., when you get right down to it. That is my one singular problem. Akira just kind of threw aside Gohan's development and put him on the shelf in favor of Goku and Vegeta. Gohan never grew, as a warrior, past the Cell saga, and to me, that is a colossal shame.

Broly is the strongest unfused dbz character[]

Umm you said gohan was the strongest unfused dragon ball z character you are sadly mistaken Broly is. Broly was stronger then all of them at birth with a fucking power level of 10,000. Goku's power level was 2 and when he fought vegeta his power level was inbetween 9,000 and 9,300 this means goku as a adult couldnt even hurt broly at 11 years old. But yes Gohan was practically one of the best and i dont believe he got weaker i just believe that because of not training he forgot how to fight therefor stuff that vegeta or goku would dodge with ease gohan would walk straight into.

Broly is not a canon character and is never even mentioned in the canon story nor is Cooler or any of the villians from the movies, they are simply side stories seperate from the main story. When Goku fought Vegeta, his power level was over 9,000 when Vegeta broke his own scouter, but Goku had not even used the Kaoken attack at that point. He used Kaoken x2, x3, x4, x10 and x20 against Vegeta, I believe. During the Namek saga when Dodoria and Zarbon detected Vegeta's power level at over 24,000, they said it was impossible and that his power shouldn't have been more than 18,000, so it's reasonable to assume that Vegeta's power level on earth was 18,000 and Goku was at least that strong during their fight, but the Kaoken attack weakened his body and he couldn't sustain it. Broly is an irrelevant character anyway because he was simply a side story and was never mentioned in DBZ or anywhere else. He wasn't part of the canon story.

gohan is awsome because realy ultamiate gohan has the power of super saiyan 4 23:33, September 19, 2012 (UTC)23:33, September 19, 2012 (UTC)23:33, September 19, 2012 (UTC)23:33, September 19, 2012 (UTC)

Broly is definitely not the strongest unfused character. Second-coming Broly was beaten by SSJ1 Goku and weakened SSJ1 Gohan and Goten. In Bio-Broly, it is implied that in Hell, Broly was beaten by Pikkon and SSJ2 Goku. Any SSJ2 character > Broly. Also, I've always thought Gohan was a pretty cool guy even though he decreased in power as an adult. I just found the great saiyaman arc pretty annoying because DBZ is about fighting with powerful opponents, not goofy high school bs. Janemba4eva (talk) 00:56, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

buu and goku are both stronger than broly.

im pretty sure ssj2goku is about equal with lssj broly so ssj3 would be more than enough to beat broly ultimate gohan would be tought to beat too

not ssj2 teen gohan not ssj2 vegeta ONLY SSJ2 GOKU

Meh[]

People criticize him because of how weaker he got when he became an adult. I have mixed feelings about his adult form, but I like teen ^.^

Epic Mage (talk) 01:03, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

For me I wish he was MUCH more powerful after he destroy cell years ago.....AREA95000 (talk) 01:15, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

I agree. Also, adult Gohan was not boring. He fought Super Buu.

Man[]

Bro that was some cool analysis, gohan is my favorite character but im not going to lie i also had my thoughts of how they made him so weak but you made some incredible remarks that hit the nail right on the head, i guess i was just so angry how he turned out in gt that i was blind so i thank you for opening my eyes now i got some real valid good points for any arguments that you have just defended

I think so[]

But Teen is better than Adult

I need a track name!!! Cant find it![]

Song appeared during the martial arts competition when Gohan had his power drained by the "M" Crew.

That is all, thank you.

Gohan is better and isnt lazy or weak[]

Gohan is the best and I agree he is the strongest unfused even more than SSJ3 because the fact that when he powered up gooku was in shock when he saw Gohans new power level and he admited that hes never seen a power level so high. Plus Goku admited as well that he couldnt defeat Fat buu but gohan cud of defeat Super Buu IF Gotenks didnt become a dumb ass along with picollo and stand there and get absorbed by him making him stronger then Gohan. Plus sure he has the fortune from Mr.satan and Ox king...but what if he wanted to do it himself? You cant go to everyone and ask for money everytime. plus that money from the Ox king eventually chichi wasted it all and Mr.satan was barely ever in gohans life. Older gohan was still the strongest out of the Z fighters. maybe not out of the bad guys but hey even Vegeta couldnt protect the world either so what was the point of vegeta talking shit when he couldnt even do it him self. If anything Gohan could last longer in a fight with Goku more then Vegeta can. Sure gohan didnt like to fight but does that mean he didnt want to protect his loved ones and the planet? NO! he wanted to but he was only 11 at the cells saga. No damn kid at 11 loves to fight plus hes Part human..I REPEAT PART HUMAN...Goku on the other hand wasnt...he was full sayian blood as well as vegeta and they only loved fighting which is why they always trained their ass off because of their passion. Gohan is part human so he doesnt have that passion. As well as Trunks and Goten along with Pan. Non of them besides goku and vegeta have that passion why? Because they were all born on the planet earth where shit is all lazy and no fighting. They came from another planet. Goku was raised on the earth but was trained by Grandpa Gohanto fight As a child. So there by Gohan is the best character and is most powerful and isnt lazy. Just chose to be a successful man with a loving family.05:24, December 7, 2012 (UTC)184.152.52.237Angel Diaz aka Boombyebye543 I just made an account after i posted this on here

In Disagreement!!! (Large, bold disagreeing font like words!!! GRRR!! Kidding...sort of...)[]

1) While Vegeta does train absurdly so compared to the other fighters who purse day jobs (though this is slightly understandable as his previous occupation was conquering planets through...fighting? Not really sure what other skills one would possess after having that as a job for most of their life), Gohan trained significantly less than what should have been as the one to protect Earth (especially being the strongest fighter at that point).  He wasn't lazy so much as 'softened' by the peacetime (which says something since he wasn't that aggressive to begin with).

2) If his hidden potential was the main source of his power as a child, he should have some portion of his time in the SEVEN YEARS between the Cell Saga and the Majin Saga in order to properly utilize it without provocation (much like Piccolo tried to do with him in the beginning of the series).

3) Vegeta was more so referring to Gohan's personality, which has more often than not been the main reason which prevents him from using his full potential.

Those who think that Vegeta is considering Gohan's abilities to be weak are mistaken, as Vegeta himself realizes the power that Gohan possess DURING THE SAIYAN SAGA after Gohan managed to disable Radcircle during the fight with Goku and Piccolo, and he noted the danger of having half-Saiyan/Human hybrids running around that are stronger than both Nappa and himself.

Furthermore, by this time Vegeta had managed to mature (compared to most other people he wasn't that mature, but considering his attitude in the beginning, one could say that it was a great improvement).  Vegeta, deliberately mind you, allowed himself to become Baberflumpool's mind slave in order to gain power at the same level as Goku's.  At this point it's pretty obvious that Vegeta was aware of the difference in power between them, considering he became a Majin for a power boost.  Also, knowing that both he and Goku together would not stand much of a chance against Majin Buu (the large one) [also unfortunately not knowing that Goku had the SS3 hidden in his back pocket], and that, being dead, if Goku died this time there would be no returning to life with the ball dragons, Vegeta attempted to kill Fat Tony by blowing himself up [failed].

Also, aware that he and Goku together would not stand a chance against Super(ly overrrating himself in a fashion more obnoxious than Vegeta's Saiyan Pride) Buu, he reluctantly allowed himself to fuse with Goku.  That, plus the fact that during the fight with Verne Troyer, Vegeta admitted (to himself in an aside to Goku) that compared to himself who stood no chance of facing the monster, Kakarion was superb in that he was almost equal to him in strength (or at least managed to prove cunning/strong enough in battle to not die).

Henceforth, people who think that Vegeta is an obnoxious, arrogant a**hole throughout the entirety of the series are flaming just as bad as the people who flame on Gohan.  (Vegeta is an obnoxious, arrogant a**hole primarily in the beginning (and middle) of the series, with moments of awesome sprinkled in between).

4) Gohan studies like he's trying to get into university, which even in Japan is common only in the last years of middle and high school (though this is "paritally" Chi-Chi trying to prevent him from becoming an unemployed individual like his father, which led to her having to rely on her father's money in order to live).  He did this from the time he was a small child so...

Also, compared to Goku and Vegeta, Gohan's full potential was not awoken due to training or his own efforts, but instead by a purple Master Roshi.  Yup, I said it.

Also, despite having the "ultimate  power", not training to properly utilize it will affect the extent of his abilities.  Just because you hold a bazooka in your hands, does not mean you can hit the large slab of rock directly beneath your feet.

5) I don't really have any problems with Gohan at the end of the series.  He came out okay.

6) I actually agree with this one.  The only thing that I don't agree with is that Gohan by the end of the series is stronger than a Super Saiyan 3 (I would say that he was more or less equal).  If you compare him to Gotenks (children mind you) then yes, it's like comparing a Daewoo to a Bugatti.  However, if you were to compare him to Goku who spent "most" of his time working on the Super Saiyan 3 form while he was dead (cause he had WAY more important stuff to do), then their abilities are comparable (especially considering the latter of whom freely admitted that he could have defeated Fat Tony in his SS3 form).

I do not hold any resentment or ill-favor toward Gohan.  He is actually one of my favourtie karakters of the series.  I just feel that as "the strongest character" he could have had a larger role to play, especially toward the end where Goku was dead and he had finally begun to awaken his true ablilitis as a mixed-breed (sorry if that sounds offensive.  The mixed-breed part, nothing else).  I think that is the problem that a lot of other fans have with his role in the overall story.  He becomes this god-like character, surpassing his own father who, up to that point, was like a self-evolving nuclear warhed, and then for the rest of the series just sort of...yeah...does nothing...so...yeah...(can't really think of what else to say here).

And that is all for my school project on why I think that Gohan in his adolescence is more of a minor character than a protagonist during the majority of the Majin Saga.  Thank you for your time and cooperation.  Sheila will hand you your complimentary sugar-free mints on the way out.

Edited some time after (my engrish not good so much).

i only got half way down because everyone is ranting and im no gohan so FUCK reading. but i would have to agree that gohan is the strongest up to the buu saga(not including goku). points being when goku is trying to transform he goes to gohan not vegeta.

im not sure if vegeta was dead or not dont have a great memory of vegeta after he turned majin. this being said goku was still beating that ass(or could have) when vegeta was majin, and majin vegeta was ssj2 half way to three. correct me if im wrong. This being said gohan if that guy above me is right gohan is stronger than a ssj3 or atleast stronger than a ssj2  which is the max that vegeta can reach without that stupid ass machine in GT( that bitch)

Rant on vegeta real quick i dont get how you can say u are the strongest when time after time you get ur ass beat by goku. i mean lets put this into perspective here. not into gt but here it goes. vegeta should never have reached ssj4 because he cannot reach ssj3 agreed. the only reason he is ssj4 is beacause of a machine agreed. goku got wished into a kid and STILL went ssj3 agreed. ok im done i dont even have to keep going u guys see my point.

back to gohan even with vegetas superior fighting experience and so on and so on dont you think that gohans still a bit FUCKING carzy. i mean he is his fathers son from the get go even though he doesnt like to fight he still has the urge and instinct to protect his family/friends, so you would think that anger is still somewhere in there. so if it ever came down to a fight with vegeta a serious fight, like vegeta destroying the world fight im pretty sure gohan would wreck vegeta.

and doesnt buu absorb gohan because he is the strongest at that point( memory gets a little fuzzy dont know if vegeta is alive or dead)  and goku tries to fuse with gohan because he is the second strongest.

i mean yeah vegeta is nuts but the whole reason why goku is stronger is because of his desire to protect his loved ones unlike vegatas quest for power. dont you think that would go for gohan too? mabey even goten but frankly he doesnt do anything himself until gt and i didnt like gt that much.

LittleMissNamek's two sense on Teen/Adult Gohan[]

On Teen Gohan- He's sooo cute and innocent! If I was in DBZ, I would totally go out with him! His Saiyaman outfit is kinda cool although the design and colors could use a bit of remodeling and the stupid poses could be taken out. He could do with a bit more training, but hey, it's tough when you got school and a superhero persona to handle.

On Adult Gohan- He's not that bad, but he could do without the glasses sometimes. He has a pretty wife and an adorable daughter. Again, training is hard to do when  you're supporting a family and a job.

With that said, the people that think Teen/Adult Gohan is lame really need to see it through his eyes and understand what he has on his plate so to speak. LittleMissNamek (talk) 01:32, February 10, 2013 (UTC)

IMO only pure saiyans can reach the higher levels like super saiyan 4. I also believe only pure saiyans age slower then half saiyans and humans , that is why Goku and Vegeta still look young compared to Chi chi and Bulma.

Half saiyans powers tend to awaken or develope a lot earlier then pure saiyans but they have a limit. If Gohan didnt have a limit why make his transformation into ultimate Gohan instead of awakening his true saiyan powers and pushing him to the next level of SSJ3? It just doesnt make any sense to me.

Finally, some people with brains[]

I don't see why people calling him weak. In Fusion Reborn, he sends Frieza back to Hell with only ONE punch and in BASE form. Saiyaman has a cool outfit and very funny.

I also agree[]

Think about it. SSJ2 Adult Gohan took on Dabura, Fat Buu, and managed to pull out the Z-Sword all in one day. In movie 10, SSJ2 Adult Gohan was the only Z-fighter actually shown inflicting an injury on LSSJ Broly. FPSSJ Goku's final punch to the gut in movie 8 really doesn't count because Goku relied on the extra ki from his friends; SSJ2 Adult Gohan didn't, he used his own power to knee an even stronger Zenkai-boosted LSSJ Broly in the face, hurting him. Keep in mind, FPSSJ Goku kneed LSSJ Broly in the chin in movie 8 which Broly just laughed off. So yes, I think Teen/Adult Gohan IS unfairly criticized.

Why Gohan is hated on.[]

OK so I think the ONLY reason Gohan is hated is because people dont like how he's affectionate for his loved ones.  I for one am a HUGE Gohan fan.  I hate all the haters that just degrade Gohan because he's the best Z fighter considering the circumstances.  Goku is better but he's FULL SAIYAN and trains ALL THE TIME!!!!  Gohan dosen't train and is half saiyan but 3/4 as good as Goku.  Therefore, Gohan is the best Z fighter for his circumstances.

Horrible Gt ending[]

OK honestly so many people said GT had a good ending but umm...no -_-. Am I the Only one that noticed Goku left his friends and family when they were just starting to be together and settle down with one another? Chichi was like 55 with another 30-40 years of life they could have spent together and Gohan and Goten didn't get their Father in their life. Goku just decides "Hey, I'm going to go train for the rest of my life! See ou all In the otherworld!" That was just totally depressing. It's no wonder Chi Chi is insane woth a husband who ditches her, making her a single mom almost her ENTIRE life and at the end how could goku jr (1/16 saiyan) be a super saiyan when Pan couldn't? Honestly there was waaay too much wrong with this show's ending. And then there's piccolo stuck in Hell forever. Honestly I'm choosing to ignore gt's existence there was just too much wrong with it.

Being strongest in the universe doesn't make you invulnerable to criticism.[]

Gohan is a DBZ character nominated for Heavyweight Champion in Making Stupid Decisions where he could have easily solved the problem in five seconds.

Letting Cell (prepared to destroy Earth) live long enough to regret it.

Letting Buu (prepared to destroy/absorb EVERYTHING) live long enough to regret it.

If the villains were any smarter, they would have f****** killed him when he let his guard down. Which is what he should have done from the beginning!

Vegeta made a stupid mistake allowing Cell to even reach his Perfect form, but that doesn't excuse Gohan from completely screwing up and ruining his potential with this malformed idea that the enemy would just keep taking what he gives them, with absolutely no change, like they are dumber than a second coat of paint, or something.

When you achieve enough power to end the fight once and for all, you do NOT hesitate. You do not f*** around.

F***.

You would think that for how great and smart Gohan is, that he would take advice from that fateful day when Goku had to make the ultimate sacrifice because his son was too caught up in having fun to finish the job when he asked him to.

Others have spent their entire lives to be as strong as they are. His father died to save Earth on multiple occasions. Some of his friends have died several times. And a few of those deaths were indirectly caused by Gohan's lack of initiative and common sense. And don't give me any sh** like "he was just a kid when he failed to hit Nappa!", because I'm not gonna rap on him for that. He was a little boy, and acted as one. Strange, though, that it took him to be threatened with the complete genocide of the human race and the murder of his friends and family to realize that mistake.

My conclusion is this:

At every opportunity where Gohan gets these great gifts of power, he ultimately squanders it, when the fate of the universe rests in his hands. His failure is beyond an Epic Fail. It is an Epic Ultimate Mystical Gigantic F****** Fail.

Gohan would have been wrecked by Kid Buu[]

Gohan is better than Vegeta SSJ2 but not Goku SSJ3. The only advantage that Gohan has is that his Ultimate Form has far less of an energy drain. However, his fighting instinct and ability is still below that of Goku and Vegeta. He was easily absorbed by Super Buu simply because he was caught off guard. Goku as SSJ3 was able to fight evenly with Kid Buu for sometime. While Gohan MAY have been able to do the same due to his energy, Kid Buu would have wrecked him. You may notice in the fight between Goku SSJ3 and Kid Buu that most of it is just fighting with fewer energy attacks, so Kid Buu who would be faster than Gohan would have destroyed him with ease, eventually getting in enough hits to cripple Gohan's energy. Goku on the other hand has great fighting instincts and improves during fights. I am not a Goku fan, he is for sure rather moronic sometimes. However, the point is that Gohan is good, Goku is better.  —This unsigned comment was made by The Shwin (talkcontribs) Please sign your posts with ~~~~ next time!

I think Gohan's WAY too overated. That is all MegaBossMan (talk) 22:11, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

No![]

Why does this exist? Gohan has the SECOND largest following, only next to the Legendary being too overrated to mention. Teen Gohan is extremely overated, even though he does deserve it. Gohan as an adult goes like this.

Oh no, I'm weaker than the other characters. Time to power up with an old man! BAM!!! Strongest character.

The real dbz villain[]

the real dbz villain is Chi Chi, she doesnt seem to care at all of what happens to the universe, a work on paper is worth more to her than the WHOLE BLASTED WORLD!!!

She tried to weaken Goku, she tried to weaken Piccolo too!!(By the filler episodes)

Gohans motivation just sucked in the Majin Buu saga, the fight between him and a badass looking demon king, was not that interesting.

The fighting between him and Super Buu, was unmotivational, and the fact that Goku was able to beat the monster in movie 13(I think) and Gohan was able too, was just a kill stealer.

He was terriable in Broly second coming, not even really going Super Saiyan 2 against Broly.

He was just an added plot device in BoG, by Bills being able to completely own Gohan like crazy.

And in GT.......He was nothing!!

Many people kept telling Akira to make Gohan the hero of the Majin Buu saga, but he said no.

Goku is the hero, not Gohan, he said it himself.

And thats what really sucked about the Majin Buu saga, it was Gohan!!

Teen Gohan was someone of whom I was looking forward to, adult Gohan is just unmotivational,he cheated in that saga!.—This unsigned comment was made by Spyrocks (talkcontribs) Please sign your posts with ~~~~ next time!

You know what? Im with you. Every one goes around and says "Man what a dissapointment gohan turned out huh?". And every time that comes up i have to restrain myself from cussing the person who said that out. I mean if you're gonna be like that try going super saiyan two yourself at the age of eleven. Sorry if im getting worked up but thats how i feel. vegeta rocks 01:35, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

What about the Goku fans?[]

I'm not just talking about the english dub, but the entire fanbase in the world.  Much of everything that has happened from the End of the Frieza Saga was because fans throw hissy fits of Goku dying.  Toriyama intended Goku to be killed off during the Namek explosion with Gohan taking the mantle as Earth's legendary superhero.  Kinda like how Kon-El meant to replace Kal-El in The Death of Superman. (Of course supes came back for similar reasons.)  The reasons at the time were actually made sense.  "How was Gohan gonna be a savior if he hasn't fought a foe to the bitter end.  And how the hell is he gonna live up to Goku's example, if Goku himself wasn't gonna be around to teach him?"  So they introduced Cell and the Androids and Gohan had a foe he could beat. Of course the Goku fans didn't like it for the sole reason that Goku died again.  Now I would have nothing against him being brought back if the following didn't happen.

1. Bringing him back for one day.

The Namek Dragon Balls can bring a dead person back more than once.  There was no excuse not to use them.

2. Making him a practical god.

Don't get me wrong Goku is powerful, but bear in mind before Z he has had a fair share of losing streaks.  He rarely won the Budokais in Dragon Ball and this in turn made him train harder.  After Cell Saga, that was no longer necessary as he was powerful enough to threaten a Kai. Even if this was well justified it didn't mean you have to automatically make every SINGLE CHARACTER INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO GOHAN, VEGETA, PICCOLO, KRILLIN and TIEN weaker than the bad guys.  That's just beyond stupid.

3.  The Spirit Bomb.

How could a technique that was only successful in the Non-Canon movies, but never worked on Vegeta or Frieza the latter of which is pure evil be able to take out Kid Buu who is more powerful than the two combined? This plus the one day thing and making the other characters weak, just shows the entirety of the saga was half assed.

All that was because they wanted Goku back. You got him back, this saga nearly killed anime for me and it lead to GT. Make what you will. —This unsigned comment was made by Shanethefilmmaker (talkcontribs) Please sign your posts with ~~~~ next time!

No. Gohan deserved all the criticism he has received!!!![]

I've never really liked gohan. When Gohan was first introduced I had mixed feelings. He never really captured my interest as much as Vegeta or Piccolo. But all throughout the Dragon Ball Z series I was really hoping that gohan would show me something with his "Hidden Potential". All during the series he has shown signs of his powers and each time he had a chance to use them he chickened out. During the Frieza Saga he had his "Hidden Potential" unlocked by Guru and yet he was still underwhelming. All the way up to the cell saga I've been in neutral and then it happened. Gohan surpassed all the Z-Fighters. I was thinking "wow he has finally lived up to his hidden potential". He'd achieved a new form and he had beaten cell. Cell's Body was crippled. No arm, no leg and some of his head had been destroyed. Then shit took a turn for the Worse. Gohan totally let Cell Regenerate after Goku (his father) and Piccolo (His First Teacher and Friend) told him to finish him off. I was wondering "did Gohan become Vegeta?" because what gohan did was completely out of character. Like seriously. Gohan had the chance to kill Cell but he "wanted to let him suffer a little more." He didn't kill Cell because "everyone deserves a second chance" (Goku Line) or "Because I want to see his true power" (Vegeta Line), but because he wanted revenge... Then when Goku sacrifices himself he cries? "Oh No I should've killed cell when I had the chance! Now my dad has died because of me!!!" I wished Krillin would've told him "Yes you did you little bastard!". That's when I began to realize I hated Gohan. All the power he had and he "wanted him to suffer"... he would've suffered if he died. But after help from everyone else, he finally kills cell (like he was supposed to do).

But Things sadly get worse for Gohan because A.T totally made gohan a worse character. 7 years had passed after he had beaten cell (he didn't train at all) and his bitch mother finally decides that "Gohan should go to school"! On the way to school gohan see's a bank being robbed and Gohan turns super saiyan to "Hide his Identity". He goes to school and is almost immediately recognized as the "Gold Fighter" Lucky for Gohan the people of Earth are complete idiots and will believe everything they are told. Gohan then goes to Bulma's house and gets a Super Hero Costume becoming the "Great Saiyaman". Not only is that the worst fucking idea ever, but it's also completely and utterly retarded! The People he fights only have power levels of 6 or less!!! So instead of Training he flies around in gay spandex and whoops on people with low power levels! He'd Rather catch bulletes than train...

Now lets skip ahead to the Supreme Kai's Planet. Gohan Breaks the Z Sword (which was supposed to be indestructible) and releases the Elder Supreme Kai. Elder Kai says that he can unlock Gohan's "Hidden Potential" if he puts his hands in front of him for a day. Oddly enough Gohan's "Hidden Potential" was already unlocked in the Frieza Saga and I was confused. Either Gohan had gained more hidden potential after namek and after the cell saga, or guru hadn't unlocked all of it. Either way he was getting his hidden potential unlocked again even though he never really worked for it. After his Hidden Potential is unlock he becomes Ultimate Gohan (Not Mythic or Mystical because those are fan terms).

After he gains his powers, he then goes and fights Super Buu. After having all the necessary power to defeat his enemy, and once again he fails to kill him. And the excuse of "he didn't want to kill goten, kid trunks, and piccolo" doesn't work because they could be wished back with the dragon balls (if not earths, nameks dragon balls). He always has a chance to finish all the villains off but never does. Gohan is just a disappointment. He may be the strongest fighter in dragon ball z, but that doesn't mean he is the best.

I AM A SUPER SAIYAN

I TOTALY AGREE[]

short version : gohan was stronger than goku and toriyama had to make him (gohan) weak. That is why gohan stopped training and that is why so many people hate him. Because he went from a powerfull character to a character that is strong but not strong enough to help in a fight.

LONG VERSION : from what i know gohan was not suposed to be weak in buu saga. Akira toriyama wanted gohan to become the main character of dbz by the end of cell saga. But he later changed his mind and desided to keep goku as the main character. The problem with that was that gohan was much more powerfull than goku at the end of cell saga and it was impossible for goku to catch up to him in 1 year or 2 so he had to make goku train for a long time and he made gohan stop training to study. If gohan kept training it would take 20 years for goku to catch up (because goku had no body he could train harder) and that is why gohan could not keep on training he would be too strong for goku and goku has to stay the strongest in order to keep his role as the main character of the series!!!

GOHAN IS AN AMAZING AND STRONG CHARACTER BUT HE HAS TO STAY NUMBER 3 IN DBZ IN ORDER FOR GOKU AND VEGETA TO STAY THE MAIN CHARACTERS SO IN OTHER WORDS GOHAN IS UNFAIRLY CRITISIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hating Chi-chi and Gohan too much people.[]

Gohan did really well for a 5 year old before the Namak Saga (5 years old and became one of the universes more powerful warriors), so he more than lived up to his potential (if you think other wise, your an idiot, he was freakin 5.... and he became stronger than Ginyu who was at the time the universes 2nd most powerful person by the time Freeza got to his final form...)

When he was 11 (after the story got stretched), he became the strongest in the universe until new characters made to be stronger were created.

Yes, he made a mistake during the Cell Games, but people make mistakes (Vegeta made mistakes, Goku made mistakes), and lets not forget... He was freakin 11, he was a little boy with little life experience and didn't enjoy fighting.

And while Chi-Chi never supported Gohan's fighting until he became an older teen, you gotta think of it from her shoes.... what kinda mother would be comfortable with their child fighting the strongest creatures of the time (the Saiyans, who were stronger than Goku, Earths most powerful hero, and Cell who also was better than Goku). And a mother wanting their child to have a good education.

Gohan really did want to be a scholar. He only loved Martial arts because he was good at it, not cause it was his passion. And he only got hidden power again because he didn't train (though to be fair, there was too much peace and he wasn't really much of a warrior and though out most of Earth's history other than Piccolo, the Saiyans, and Cell, there wasn't any huge danger for thousands of years).

It'd be stupid if he became a warrior for no reason. And while he didn't kill Buu right away, why would someone complain about him not being willing to kill his little brother, his mentor, and his little brother figure? Honestly, if you could easily kill your important people, you should be locked up.

And stopping Crime is considered stupid? He's doing more good for his world that most of the useless people that are complaining about him, and he's keeping his identity secret so that people don't always harass him. It's actually smart. He's using his powers to help people. What's wrong with that? He's only supposed to train for the extreme stuff that happened twice in thousands of years (and lets face it, after a certain point, the series was more action fan service than story)... so most of those dangers shouldn't have really happened logically and there were tons of other warriors.

Honestly, it seems most of the reasons to hate Gohan are stupid.... While I'm disappointed in the Adult Gohan too (cause I really liked future Gohan), I do realize why he became the way he did and don't stupidly hate him (being disappointed and hating a character are 2 different things) I do kinda wish he could have lived up to his battle potential without the 2nd unlocking (Chi-chi didn't seem as against training if Gohan kept up with his education, which is actually important, and he wasn't in danger -and what mom would want their kid in danger).

As a character, I liked Gohan and think he was actually pretty well done over all.

Adult Gohan is stronger.[]

When Vegeta says Gohan got weak, Supreme Kai states that he is the strongest person at the tournament. That counts his hidden power the Kai sensed. Ultimate Gohan was his hidden power, so he was stronger than ssj3 Goku. He just had not achieved that level on his own yet. Also when Vegeta says that, Gohan is lowering up to a ssj2, which Vegeta can't even access until Babidi helps him out. So Gohan is stronger than Vegeta says. Common sense says that any 18 year old man would be stronger than his 11 year old counterpart. Also Gohan might not have trained to Vegeta's degree, but he trained Goten and Videl. Goten had trained with Gohan enough before that he was a ssj. Vegeta trained Trunks harder and more often and got the same result. Not to mention 7 years of training and he still couldn't go ssj2? Goku tells Gphan to remember how he tapped into his power when he fought Cell. Then explains about fighting for loved ones. He wanted Gohan to have confidence. All in all Gohan couldn't have gotten weaker and probably only got stronger from Cell Saga to the Buu Saga. Adult Gohan is stronger.
