  • Imagination Series 2
  • Release date: 2004

Released in January 2004, Bandai's Imagination series portrays Super Saiyan Gotenks with his Super Kamikaze Ghosts floating around him in a very nice diorama pertaining to the Imagination series. This is the precise depiction of Gotenks as he declares himself to be victorious, the ghosts encircling him and adding depth to his overconfident nature, making it a great piece in the diorama set. A nice feature is the transparency that the ghosts hold as they are seen floating around Gotenks, one laying down, another maintaining his hands dangling in front and the last one raising his one hand upward. Other pieces included in this same Imagination Part 2 set are Goten riding a dinosaur while holding its eggs, Piccolo with little Gohan resting on his side, Super Saiyan 3 Goku with a fierce aura electrifying the presence around him, and the alliance of Videl and Great Saiyaman as they fight crime back to back.

The special aspect of this set is the incorporation of Shenron as a secret golden variant figure, allowing for him to be a snap-together piece when all the other characters are brought together. Each figure includes one of Shenron's body parts. The complete figure is also well-crafted for a 5-inch scale collectible. Wave 3 of this series completes a golden base Shenron while Wave 1 completes a basic green Shenron and Wave 2 completes Porunga. The figures included in this Wave 3 set along with the attached figurine part are as follows: Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta [GT boxart] (With Golden Dragon Piece), Omega Shenron [GT boxart] (With Golden Dragon Piece), Super Saiyan 3 Goku (With Golden Dragon Piece), Kid Buu [named "Majin Buu" on packaging] (With Golden Dragon Piece), Super Saiyan Gotenks (With Golden Dragon Piece), and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta (With Golden Dragon Piece). All the figures also come with parts of the dragon and base allowing for the character to be brought together in perfect unison. This version of the set is the Japanese release, having a unique packaging for the complete set. However, after much anticipation, this series was due for release in 2008 but was partially canceled. The Kid Buu and Super Saiyan 3 Goku figures were released while the Omega Shenron, SS4 Vegeta, SS Gotenks and SS4 Gogeta were removed from the released roster, having only two of the planned six figures actually released. This not only provided a problematic situation for fans who wanted to complete the Golden Shenron figurine, but also canceled the release of these characters although the prototypes can be seen on the packaging. Additionally, the Kid Buu and Super Saiyan 3 Goku figures in the Ultimate Collection set came packaged with transparent yellow and pink blasts instead of parts of the Golden Shenron. However, The Ultimate Collection Gotenks piece was later released, allowing for three of the six pieces to be collected.

The paint job in particular is exquisite for a large-scale figure, allowing for all the features to be seen in greater depth. Also, there is a good deal of articulation allowed for such a large figure, particularly in terms of both legs having double horizontal joints for unique poses. The distinguishing factor for this large collectible is the transparent feature for his two Kamikaze Ghosts and the very unique golden shine given to his hair, allowing for a very nice touch. This resin-based model kit statue displays Gotenks as he maintains his position and is surrounded by two Super Kamikaze Ghosts, both with their own delighted expressions. There are two finished alternate variants available for this resin statue set, one of which portrays Gotenks in his base state and the other displays his Super Saiyan state. Oddly enough, the Super Saiyan trio has a rather unique touch due to the Kamikaze Ghosts having bright yellow hair as opposed to the basic coloring scheme that they maintain onscreen. Aside from this erroneous instance, the rest of the set is very well sculpted and has a great atmospheric touch. The ground base is a shattered interior of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The coloring scheme for the model itself is captivating for both variants.

However, this time, the vest is on the opposite side of the packaging. This is an easy way to determine the difference between the piece. Additionally, the image of Gotenks posing on the box front has been inverted and is now facing the opposite direction. This is the vol. 18 piece but is now made available by a Chinese manufacturer. The set is still volume 18 although the repack release date is altered. All initial SBC pieces were released with a similar packaging, having a square box design with flaps, allowing for the figure to be removed from the packaging and easily placed back into it without damaging the box itself. GOTENKSVARI

Super Saiyan Gotenks "what-if" scenario series figure

  • What-If Scenario series
  • Release date: Unknown

This figurine is a repaint variant of the previously released Real Works Super Saiyan Gotenks figurine. This version, however, is depicted with a very odd coloring scheme depicting him in a less-glossy look as opposed to the shiny one offered in the Real Works set and with an oddly unique touch as he has an orange hue for his hair, purple on his vest, and a dark pigmentation for his skin tone. This piece remains a part of the "what-if" scenario additions, due to being a part of this set, which is comprised of Saiyan characters with odd fusion and Super Saiyan transformations. The only character portrayed in a canon fashion in this set is Broly, who appears in his pre-transformed state. Others also included in this 12cm set with bases and who are non-canon by their appearance are Turles (with Super Saiyan 4-type fur), Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta (with silver fur and silver hair), Super Saiyan 4 Goku (with silver fur and silver hair), Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta (with silver fur and silver hair), and a very odd Super Saiyan Gotenks with a dark skin tone, orange hair, and an alternate clothing pattern. The figurines come with miniature bases to stand on, which add congruence to the overall set as a whole.

The same unique set that has constituted Gotenks with his odd darker coloring scheme has also been made available in keychain format. The model is the same as the Real Works model aside from the repaint done here. Unlike any previous releases, this piece remains a "what-if" scenario addition due to being a part of this set. Others also released in the same set are comprised of Saiyan characters with odd fusion and Super Saiyan transformations. These keychains are likely the exact same figurines from the aforementioned "what-if" scenario set but are fitted into a keyholder slot, allowing for them to be used as keychains as opposed to figurines.

Another very unique set has been incorporated in a keychain format similar to the High Grade releases by Banpresto. A model of Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks appears as a part of this set. His posture is one of confidence as he stretches his arm outward in a blasting posture as he is seen the same way on his RealWorks piece. Gotenks appears in his Super Saiyan 3 state albeit having red hair and a green-lined vest with somewhat additional touch-ups enabling it to be considered a what-if Super Saiyan 4 figurine. Other pieces included in this what-if set are a fusion of Super Saiyan 5 Broly, Kid Buu, Super Saiyan 5 Vegeta, Super Saiyan 5 Goku, and a rather oddly painted Super Saiyan 5 character. The figures stand at approximately 9cm (Kid Buu fusion) to 13cm (Super Saiyan 5 Broly).

The same what-if scenario set from the aforementioned keychain series was also released with transparent bases, ranging from 10cm (Kid Buu fusion) to 14cm (Super Saiyan 5 Broly) with their bases. Nothing is altered for these pieces in terms of design as they are the exact same molds and models but without the pierced keychain slots and instead with their unique transparent round bases. The Super Saiyan 4 Gotenks with red hair and green vest is a nice addition to any collector of the what-if scenario figurines and goes along well with the other wild and intense figurines that transcend the imagination for Dragon Ball super-powered warriors.

This one, however, is a new model in and of itself and was sculpted and sold as is. The paint job isn't particularly brilliant but it is unique. Standing at approximately 5 inches tall, this specific model is rather well-crafted and stands out amongst numerous others imported from these Mexican Manufacturers. Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks is seen wearing a black vest with orange lining for this version.
