Hikou (飛行 Hikō, lit. "Aviation") is the ability to fly without the use of ki through the use of wings or special mechanisms[1] (such as jetpacks).

Overview[]

Jaco is capable of high-speed flight using his jet boots.

As the androids have no ki of their own, they are unable to use Flight. Instead, they have a special device in their body that allows them to fly, while others have rockets.

Whereas ki-based flight does not function in the Tournament of Power, Hikou can still be utilized, putting winged fighters at an advantage.

Film Appearances[]

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Cell Max can fly without ki by using his insect-like wings which he uses in an attempt to escape Gohan Beast's Special Beam Cannon but is stopped by Great Namekian Orange Piccolo.

Variations[]

Video Game Appearances[]

In various video games, certain characters such as Mr. Satan that are incapable of ki-based flight are equipped with jetpacks that allow them to fly. This is usually done for gameplay purposes to provide a plausible explanation for how they are able to fly.

In Dragon Ball Heroes, Super Mira's Final Form after absorbing Demon God Towa gains the ability to grow angel-like wings allowing him to fly without having to use ki.

Oolong uses a jetpack to fly around during a Sub-Event in Dragon Ball Fusions. Arale Norimaki can use this technique in Dragon Ball Fusions much like how Kid Goku can fly using ki after being transported to the Timespace Rift. This is due to the fact that battles take place in the air in Dragon Ball Fusions necessitating them to be able to fly in some form. It is also used by Android Mecha Goku and Nuova Goku, the EX-Fusion of Nuova Shenron and Goku.

In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, most characters incapable of ki-based Flight utilize jetpacks to fly. These characters include Bulma, Bulla, Chi-Chi (Youth & Adult), Jewel, Killa, Krillin (Youth), Yamcha (Bandit & World Tournament), Launch, Master Roshi/Jackie Chun, Mr. Satan, Nam, Poachers, Ranfan, Uub (Youth), Red Ribbon Soldier, Murasaki, General Blue, and Staff Officer Black. The game also features winged fighters such as Tambourine, Cymbal, Wings, Nuova Shenron, Eis Shenron, Oceanus Shenron (True Form), and Torga.

In Dragon Ball Legends, characters such as Bulma (Youth), Chi-Chi, Future Mai, Launch (Bad/Good), Cheelai (Assist), Yajirobe, Master Roshi, Mercenary Tao, and Magenta all utilize Jetpacks to fly. Some even have their own personalized Jetpacks such as Mercenary Tao's which has his "Kill You" phrase written on it (presumably due to his jetpack covering the same phrase printed on back of his Qipao) and Master Roshi who utilizes a modified Turtle Hermit's Shell that has a jet engine built-in allowing it to double as a jetpack. Magenta uses a Red Ribbon Army Jetpack which features the Red Ribbon Army logo.
