It is a mental state shown to him and used against him by Whis during their many training sessions.

Energy Abilities

  • Flight – The user uses their ki to give them the ability to levitate. However, as a Saiyan, Goku already possesses the innate ability to fly, which later in adulthood, he'd show to completely dominate. Goku possess the capacity for energy based techniques due to a natural affinity for the manipulation of Ki energy for a variety of different purposes and effects coming from his biological heritage as a Saiyan but also from his nature as a prodigious martial artist.

  • Spirit Bomb – One of Goku's signature attacks in which he conducts some of energy of his surroundings and all nearby living organisms, forming a ball of power and size depending of the amount of harnessed ki energy. Its power was used against many powerful opponents such as Vegeta, Frieza, Dr. Wheelo, Turles, Lord Slug, Super Android 13, Kid Buu and Omega Shenron. It was also absorbed for increased strength in Super Android 13!. It has a few variations

Speed and movement techniques

Even though it is not exactly certain how fast Goku can travel, on several occasions, it has been suggested that Goku, by the end of Dragon Ball Z, can move at extremely high speeds while flying. It is mentioned that the Z Fighters themselves watch the light from someone's aura to see where they are during fast-paced battles. At the start of Dragon Ball Z Goku could fly at comparable speeds to the Nimbus, which flies at Mach 1.5 at full speed.

  • Afterimage Technique – This technique is a short burst of extremely high speed, moving faster than the opponent can sense. This has the side effect of leaving a momentary "after image", until the opponent's senses adapt and realize their target has moved.
  • Instant Transmission – Also called Instantaneous Transmission the user places their index and middle finger on their forehead, sensing a location that they teleport to.
  • Mid-Air Stop – While falling to the ground, Goku exhales deeply in order to keep himself suspended in the air long enough to dodge. Goku uses this technique during his battle against King Chappa in the preliminaries of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.

  • High Speed Movement - Goku moves at incredible speed, giving the illusion he teleports.

Power Ups

Techniques

One of Goku's most common features is that he has a diverse disposal of moves used to increase his power in combat. They are techniques and transformations that multiply his base power level.

  • Vlcsnap-2011-04-12-08h54m29s68

    Kaio-ken

Kaio-ken – Goku forms a red ki aura around his body, multiplying his power level, enhancing his strength and speed. The highest used level of this attack is x20. Goku does not use it much after becoming Super Saiyan
  • Fusion Dance – Must be used in conjunction with another person when sharing the same power level. By performing a simultaneous and parallel dance and ending with the contact of the users' index fingers, they fuse for half an hour. Should the dance fail, the users take on a disfigured form with low physical and ki abilities. Goku performs this technique a few times with Vegeta, but it is only successful twice in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and in Dragon Ball GT while in their normal and Super Saiyan 4 forms.

Transformations

Great Ape forms

  • Great Ape – Like all other Saiyans, Goku is able to transform into a Great Ape if he has a tail and gains the necessary amount of Blutz Waves required to transform. Goku never could control this transformation, entering always into a berserk trance every time he transformed. Since his tail was ultimately removed, he never transformed as an adult.

Super Saiyan forms

  • Super Saiyan – The first Super Saiyan transformation, achieved by Goku after witnessing Frieza murder his best friend, Krillin.
    • Super Saiyan Second Grade – The half-point between Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2, first achieved in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Goku never has used the form in battle, opting to master the basic Super Saiyan form instead, only briefly showing it to Gohan.
    • Super Saiyan Third Grade – The successor to the 2nd Grade Super Saiyan form. He shows it Gohan while they are in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but he never uses the form in battle because how slow it makes the individual.
    • Super Saiyan Full Power – The mastery over the core Super Saiyan itself. Achieved in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, used in the battle with Cell then throughout the rest of Dragon Ball Z and into Super.
    • Super Saiyan 2 – The sequel to the Super Saiyan transformation. Goku is first shown assuming the form on-screen when back on Earth after he spent several years in the Other World. Uses it throughout the remainder of Dragon Ball Z and numerous times during Dragon Ball Super against Beerus, Goku Black, Zamasu, Future Trunks and several times during the Tournament of Power
    • Super Saiyan 3 – The next transformation, achieved through his training in the Other World. He uses this against Majin Buu, Kid Buu, and Janemba. In Battle of Gods, and Dragon Ball Super he uses it to take on Beerus and then later to test Future Trunks. Goku usually doesn't use this form for serious battles after training with Whis due to the negative effects of the form not being suited for battle and having several more powerful and efficient form.
    • Super Saiyan 4 – The final Super Saiyan transformation only seen in Dragon Ball GT. Only those that are Super Saiyans, and have control over Golden Great Ape forms can achieve this state. Goku attains it during the tail end of the Baby Sage of Dragon Ball GT thanks to Pan and used this form for the remainder of the series.

Super Saiyan God forms

  • Super Saiyan God – The advanced godly Super Saiyan transformation that is achieved after performing a ritual with six Saiyans. Goku uses this against the God of Destruction Beerus. In the Tournament of Power Goku reveals he is able to retake the form once again on his own and uses it to keep up with Dyspo of the Pride Troopers and to battle Jiren.
  • Super Saiyan Blue - The result of gaining the powers of Super Saiyan God and turning Super Saiyan or from having your Super Saiyan form surpass the power of Super Saiyan God. Goku uses this form against Frieza in his Golden Form and all battles that follow.
    • Completed Super Saiyan Blue: Exclusively in the manga the full potential of a Super Saiyan Blue is only usable by a Saiyan during the first few moments of the transformation before dropping to a normal level for Super Saiyan Blue. Goku manages to overcome the massive stamina flaw of Super Saiyan Blue to the point where he can use the form for as long and as many times as he wants with no issues. After mastering the stamina flaw did Goku learn to seal the massive overflowing power inside himself to achieve the perfected state of Super Saiyan Blue.

Combined Techniques and Transformations

  • Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan: Only used in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. Goku absorbs the energy of the Spirit Bomb while transformed in Super Saiyan.
  • Super Kaio-ken: A filler state. Goku combines the Kaio-ken with his Super Saiyan transformation, the Super Kaio-ken; this is done on one occasion, in his fight against Pikkon. Goku has never used it again as the power is equal to Super Saiyan 2.
  • Golden Great Ape – A more powerful form of the Great Ape, only seen in Dragon Ball GT. It's the combination of the Great Ape and the Super Saiyan. Super Saiyans with tails who can control the monkey state and harness the monkey's power can achieve this state.
  • Kaio-ken Blue: Many years after learning the technique Goku pulls it out again after realizing his Super Saiyan Blue form possesses the Ki Control to use Kaio-Ken along side it on a few occassions rarely going above a normal Kaio-Ken but has only had to go X10 twice and X20 once on top of Super Saiyan Blue.

Pre-Super Saiyan forms

  • Pseudo Super Saiyan – A non canon Saiyan transformation used in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. Goku's pupils disappear, his hair has a red tint and raises up, he acquires a yellow aura, and he gains a massive power increase, along with an angry disposition.
  • Super Saiyan power – A filler form. Goku utilizes some of his Super Saiyan power in his base form. Used against the Ginyu Force in Hell. Not a actual form but rather a last moment editing decision by Toei Animation to make Goku's hair black instead of yellow to hide his Super Saiyan form from Pikkon

Enhanced Base forms

Anime-only Abilities and Techniques

Abilities

  • Pure Progress - While in Ultra Instinct "Omen" form, Goku is shown able to instantly adapt and improve to new experiences with each exertion he is forced to make, making him noticeably more powerful and efficient in the process. As noted by Piccolo, as Goku continued to exchange blows with Jiren, a mortal warrior with Destroyer-like might, each blow he threw became faster, more precise, and simply heavier in might until ultimately, Goku was able to see through his highly-alert foe's defenses begin landing impactful blows.
