Ruthless Blow (非情の一撃 Hijō no ichigeki)[10] is a Rush Attack used by Frieza.

Overview[]

The attack starts off with Frieza saying "Out of my way!", he charges towards the opponent at high speed, then he uses Rapid Movement (disappearing from the opponent's line of sight). The opponent suddenly feels a stabbing pain and discovers to their shock and horror that Frieza has thrust his hand/palm into their back. Frieza ends the attack by pulling his hand out of the opponent's back and letting them fall helplessly to the ground.

Usage[]

Frieza attempts to use this technique to finish off Vegeta on Namek but is stopped when Goku arrives. On Earth, Frieza uses the Ruthless Blow to execute one of King Cold's soldiers, with the rationale for doing so either being for cowardice, as the soldier shows signs of fear to Future Trunks after his comrades are killed, or similar to his ancestor simply for being in his way (the former being the Funimation dub and the latter being the Japanese version).

In one of his many image training sessions whilst in Hell, Frieza uses Ruthless Blow to kill the image of Goku he was battling.

In the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Black Frieza used this technique to kill Gas. Unlike in most cases, he uses it while facing Gas rather than from behind.

In Dragon Ball GT, in Hell, Frieza attempts the technique to finish his Vengeance attack and kill Goku, but Goku manages to barely dodge it.

Similar Techniques[]

Much earlier, during the King Piccolo Saga, King Piccolo uses a similar technique to fatally impale one of King Furry's guards though it is performed from the front and King Piccolo lifts the opponent up with his left hand.[2] While Piccolo never displays this technique, he still has access to it, as he has retained all of King Piccolo's techniques from birth.[3]

Dr. Gero uses a similar technique on Yamcha after absorbing his energy though like King Piccolo's it is performed from the front and additionally Dr. Gero holds up Yamcha's body with his right hand while stabbing him with his left arm, while King Piccolo holds up his opponent with his left hand while stabbing the opponent with his right arm.[4]

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, Android 17 uses a similar move as part of his Endgame on Dr. Gero.

Chilled's Ruthless Blow

In Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, Chilled uses a similar technique to kill one of his soldiers simply because this soldier was in his way.[6]

In Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission, Super Saiyan 4 Broly uses a similar technique to take down Eis Shenron.[7]

In Dragon Ball Super, Beerus uses a similar technique to stab Super Saiyan God Goku in the chest.[8]

Moro Kills the Namekian Savior

Moro impales the Namekian Savior from the front without turning around

Moro uses a similar technique to kill the Planet Namek Savior though he performs it in reverse as he impales the opponent from the front while his back is turned.[9] He then attempts to use it on Buu, but it has no effect on him.[11] Later, after absorbing Seven-Three and being blasted by Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken Goku's Instant Kamehameha, Moro did it again towards on Goku, shocking the Z-Fighters.[12] After being given a Senzu Bean and plead by Goku to surrender, he attempted to finish him off but alas broke his own hand, with Goku bluffing and mocking him for being a "sneaky coward" here.[13]

Mecha Frieza uses his Ruthless Blow on Future Trunks in Raging Blast 2

In the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game, it is named "Black Frieza's Left Chop" and based on the version Frieza attempted on Goku in Hell.

In Raging Blast 2, it is named Ruthless Blow where it is one of Mecha Frieza's Super Rush Attacks.

Trivia[]

  • Frieza using the Ruthless Blow technique to execute one of his soldiers for cowardice in the English dub is somewhat ironic, as killing someone while their back is turned is generally considered a cowardly action.
  • In the Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game, Rutheless Blow is the name of the strong kick attack to the neck used by Zarbon to kill one of the elder Namekians in Moori's village.
  • When preparing to use the attack on Vegeta, Frieza, says "Goodnight, sweet prince", referencing the Shakespeare play Hamlet in the initial and remastered versions of the Funimation dub.
