Problem with Main Page

I've noticed a problem with the main page in the last few days. The templates seem to be colliding and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix this dilemma. See if you can make sense out of it; I'm sure it's due to some encoding error, but it can't be from my comp only, as it shows up on the same intervals even when I log out. Women in bikini

I think this user really should stop adding pictures of almost naked women, since this is an all-ages site and we even censor quite a bunch of images featuring some specific anime scenes in the articles. - KILL YOU! 20:59, May 20, 2012 (UTC)

Yes. This is why most regional airing censor these things out. Additionally, most regions consider sexual content to be for older audiences than violent content. That's not to say that I agree is disagree with that stance, but my goal is to make the site as good as possible in terms of giving out information. In this case, not offending people is a higher priority than personal desire to post and look at unrelated female models. Especially when you consider the anime and manga was technically for teenagers, not really children. Not saying those pictures that were uploaded were really neccesary or appropriate, but if we're gonna have Recoome's middle finger on his page, which is consisder quite an insult, Tien's arm being punched off, etc, then some slightly older teen content is not really something to worry about. The problem is that those are related examples that provide DB info to readers. There is some level of offensiveness that we deal with to further the goal of being an encyclopedia of DB knowledge. I agree with you there, yeah, I just would not worry to much about labeling this wiki for all ages, considering the show and manga is certainly not for all ages, especially uncensored DB. I guess it was a children's show in Japan due to Japan's less strict rules on nudity and violence, but quite different for US audiences. Threats in sigs

This user who I assume is Legato using a sockpuppet has a sig "I Kill Who I Want" He wrote on my talk page saying he isn't Legato but there was a space between his message and sig ad I only saw the sig at first making it appear as if he threatened me. You can see it for yourself at the bottom of my talk page. I left a message telling him he should change it.Main question is there are rules about the words or other content of sigs right? Copyright Infringement problems

Hey 10X, I wanted to ask you a question, so hopefully we can blow over a new leaf eh, haha. If an episode's gallery has too many images, wouldn't that be consisdered copyright infringement, as in certain galleries they have practically every frame from that episode. Thanks.

Copyright infringement in our case would mean using some privately owned material, such as DB media, in a way not covered by fair use laws. Fair use is a US based set of laws that are somewhat vague. They are based on several variables, and of those either one must be met a lot, or a few met somewhat, for the laws to apply. Additionally, there are some variables that make things less likely to be fair use. In our case, we are sharing information nearly for free (other than ads), and we are running a site for general educational purposes. Therefore the images are okay to use, but only in ways which are necessary to inform the public about DB topics, specifically cases where words alone would not be enough. So for a topic such as Perfect Cell, we might need an image for each technique of his to show what the technique looks like, and maybe an image for each fight he has to show his conflict with the opposing character. What we probably couldn't justify as necessary would be something like a collection of 20 still shots of Perfect Cell just standing there, since 2-3 would be enough to get all angles. If you're curious about fair use, I would suggest googling it and reading up a little. On a related note, I see the user Gohan ibbe put around three hundred images in some episode galleries, which I think is hilarious. I once bothered removing the duplicated/really similar images and it took me a long while to do so as I had to remove over one hundred pictures as they were not necessary. A few days ago, I saw he did the same thing on the Super_Saiyan_3?!#Gallery article, too. I removed all the images (I'd later upload more reasonable images for the gallery) put by Gohan ibbe as it would really a long time to remove the similar pics again. So, Jeangabin666 and I had a bit of discussion here and here. I still think there are tons of unnecessary images in the gallery and we should have cleaner galleries/articles. Visitors considered, it'd be tedious for them as well to scroll through very similar images. However though, Jeangabin666 will undo my edits whenever I attempt to remove identical images. According to your explanation, this many of images for a gallery is unnecessary. Though, I'd like to ask you again to take action in order to remove it wholly and put better quality images which are not almost duplicates of each other. OR if anyone is willing enough to search though about 300 images and remove the ones which should be removed, they are free to do so. But it takes a really long time. Strange nightly chat occurrences

Hello 10X,
Just wanted you to know that at night (around 9 pm at night for me here in California tonight) we have been having groups of users from what appears to be another wiki of some kind. Presumably they are here to troll. They all seem to know one another and I believe many of them are likely sockpuppets of users from this group. We believe they are here to troll because we warn them when they break rules, and they continue to do so. Just informing you of the incident, as this is the second consecutive night it has happened, but if there is a course of action you would like us to take on the matter, I would be more than happy to approach the situation at hand in whatever way you find most effective.

Color confusion

I am confused. In the color for Full Power Super Saiyan it has the color yellow and whitish yellow. But Super Saiyan only has yellow. So what confuses me is this. The 2 only differences is that the aura is less flame like (no different color) and the Super Saiyan is more relaxed. Why are the colors different?SSJman 02:28, May 27, 2012 (UTC)

Multi-Shot Galleries

Hey, 10x! I was wondering, if a gallery for an episode has so many pictures it's ridiculous, could I please just remove it. I'd be happy to replace the photos that were there with 6-12 photos showcasing the main events in said episode. I was being quite straightforward, actually. There are more than three images which are similar. and it's not only a matter of there being similar images. There are a lot of unnecessary images even though they're not identical. As I said several times before, the reason I completely removed the gallery was because I would put better quality and more reasonable images instead of, say, ten shots of Buu's back. I don't really intend to spend almost one hour eliminating identical/unnecessary images through 300-something images. Any sane person wouldn't. Kill You, it sounds like you had good intentions, but your mentions were extreme and probably not the best way of going about your goal. If you only dislike 3 images out of 300, then you cannot delete 297 good images. The only exception would be if something like 150 were bad, and they were all done in one edit. The three images I showed Jeangabin666 were merely examples and trust me it's much more than only three images. Seriously, I once tried to eliminate the identical/really similar/unnecessary images from a gallery consisting of the images Gohan ibbe uploaded and it really is time consuming. Please, take a look at this. I had to remove more than one hundred images and I really put effort on it to only be reverted by Jeangabin666. Feel free to check the images I removed and you'll see what I mean. Also, taking a look at it again, please look at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th images in the gallery on Search for Survivors. As a side note, we're talking about a show which is 20-minute per episode. So, you can easily guess that if a 20-minute show has 300-something image, that means some images are really similar or unnecessary even if they are not similar even without looking at the images. You guys need to calm down. I think everyone agrees that duplicate images need to be removed, and only the methods are in question here. This is an easy thing to solve, and no one is insane, aggressive, illogical, ridiculous, etc. Kill You, you are not allowed to remove any good images just to get rid of bad ones, with the exception of reverting a single recent edit series in which more than half of the images are duplicates. It is not okay to simply blank establishes galleries just because a minority of the images are bad. It takes more time to do it the correct way, image by image, but the correct way is the only way on an encyclopedia. Jeangabin666, please respect the fact that fair use will not cover a gallery with 300 images for a 20-minute program. Wikipedia uses usually about 4 images even for 2-hour movies, which is more reasonable. However though, uploading this one after the first pic is waste of time and energy on Gohan ibbe's part. I talked to him about this as well when I noticed he uploaded this many images. I agree the act of removing all the images might seem extreme but I eventually would make sure to upload the corresponding images with better quality. Normally the ban will expire over time unless it is an infinite ban which is reserved for sockpuppets, excessive spammers, and habitual rulebreakers that take it to the extreme. Disabling blogs/chat?

Hiya, Tenny. I'm here today to talk to you about disabling the blog feature here on Dragon Ball Wiki. From speaking with some older users on chat, I've learned that since the addition of blogs and the chat, the social aspect has taken over this wiki. I'd like to see the blogs or chat disabled, as I think this wiki should go back to what it was originally meant for: being an advanced encyclopedia about everything Dragon Ball-related.

• For why I'd like blogs disabled, the user Colgatecity told me that he disabled blogs on his wiki and editing of articles increased substantially. About three-fourths of the activity on the recent activity page is a comment on a blog, and said blogs are usually random, useless, and/or unrelated to anything Dragon Ball. If we disabled this, we would weed out many underage users, as about 3% of those users actually edit the mainspace. This wiki could really use that.
• As for chat being disabled, my hypothesis is that half of the problems on this site originate from trolls and such on the chat. The trolls that are banned from the chat frequently become vandals as they "butthurt" about being banned. If we disabled it, a large portion of the vandalism here could be eliminated. It would also stop you and other admins/chat mods from receiving dozens of ban requests for users trolling the chat.

I understand that this must be a community decision, but I felt the need to run it by you first. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated on this. Blogs and chat were implemented by Wikia staff as a means of getting more users on the site, presumably for increased ad revenue. While most bloggers don't seem to do much article editing (most, not all), I have never seen proof that it is detracting from the articles either. Yes, there may be some "useless" blogs, but that doesn't detract from info; it is a distraction at worst. To me, it is just an independent social addition to the site. Apology

I want to apologize for becoming so angry last month before I left. It was overboard. I was just frustrated. At the time I had spent 2 1/2 hours getting screenshots for the episode so when the edits were reverted it didn't feel like the five minutes of edits were erased, it felt like the 2 1/2 hours of work were erased. It was your response that really frustrated me though (and please don't take this as angry, hostile or an attack on you, I'm just trying to explain how I felt at the time.) A bad edit really isn't that big of a deal but from your response I didn't feel confident about knowing what was wrong with the trivia. So I felt like maybe the next time I spent a great deal of time working on an episode it'll all be reverted too. I felt like why even work on something if I can't be sure it will stay? I hadn't read your more detailed response until just a bit ago and had that been the initial reponse I probably wouldn't have gotten upset at all. But I understand your time constraints and I thank you for offering the more detailed response.

Anyway, since I use the wiki on a daily basis I figure I could make contributions. I understand and expect you to still hold some hard feelings towards me as I was very critical of you out of anger, but I offer you my apologies and hope you can tolerate my presence here.

Hi there. Thanks for the comments, I'll try and take into account what it was that frustrated you on my end, and adjust my future dialogues accordingly. In terms of your work, it is unfortunately always a risk on a community-run site that your work will be undone. A very common example is a user spending days making an entire article, uploading it all at once, then having it deleted a few minutes later because the article exists, just under a different name. There is really no solution to this problem, it's just a wiki fact of life that not all of anyone's work will stay. In fact, over a longer period of time, such as a few years, it is very likely that nearly all of any wiki site will have been rewritten. On a site where very few (only wikia staff) are compensated in any way for the work put it, it's just a question of motivation. In terms of those screenshots, only Kotsu is a mod from those listed. While it is possible to add those shadowed text messages, they aren't actually kicking you, just pretending. As for cursing and spamming, a warning is nice, but not required. Absorption Article

Hi.

I just noticed your edit to the Absorption article. And, I have to say the wording you chose to replace mine with was not better at all. It is bland and repetitive " or the using a part of their body to suck the victim into their body, thus gaining their power and abilities.". I counted the word "their" three times, and "their body" twice, not to mention "the using"...There is no variation in vocabulary at all. And using the word "thus"? This article is neither a topical debate, nor a fairy tale. Did you even take the time to read it and fully compare the two? It honestly looks as if a fourteen year old has written it.

For the sake of that article, I am undoing your edit. If you wish to rewrite it yourself, be my guest. Just dont revert it back to what it was.

Am I allowed to ask for user's comments on my blogs to be removed. I had a blog that was spammed by these users. They posted a thread that had nothing to do with the blog title at all. I know very well we have many chat mods right now, but some have become less active and some haven't appeared at all. Many trolls have come by recently and no mods where they're, now they're becoming busier and less active. Because they don't add very much information, but cause pages to take many times longer to load, they don't contribute to the encyclopedic nature of the site. Additionally, many videos require software not supported by all browsers, such as those used in portable devices like cell phones. This may cause those users to be unable to view an article at all, or leave the site due to frequent browser crashes, even on other pages like user pages and blogs. Did you know section on Main Page

I noticed that it says Frieza is defeated 5 times, but actually, he's defeated 6 times. This is including the OVA: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, where he is defeated yet again. Should the Main Page be changed to accomodate, or is the OVA not counted in this situation? I can never forgive you for what you've done! 18:40, June 21, 2012 (UTC)

Tense

Hey, hows it going? well, Ive noticed that all over the Wiki, there are some articles that are written in present tense, others in past tense, some a combination of both. is their a certain way the articles need to conform? I checked the Manual of Style, but couldnt find anything.

Yah, the Manual of Style will say how to do it, but unfortunately there are still some tense errors in articles. Basically real events have normal tenses like you would expect (so and so voiced Yamcha, Toriyama is a cool guy, the newest game will come out), and all fictional events are in the present tense (because every time you watch the episode, Goku defeats Frieza). -- 10X.Ka^.me_.ha^.me_.ha^.._.^..talk_.^..._.contrib. 14:21, June 22, 2012 (UTC)
