The West Kai (西の界王 Nishi no Kaiô) is King Kai's rival. He is quite arrogant, rude, and insulting. He is about half the size of King Kai. His fighters are very strong and his best and strongest fighter is Pikkon. He also is the only Kai without sunglasses with a monacle instead. His fighters include Pikkon, Tapkar and Maraikoh. He taught Pikkon Thunder Flash and later remarks, after Pikkon fried the arena twice with Thunder Flash that "I told him not to do that, don't use Thunder Flash unless you're far away I said. It's getting harder and harder to teach these kids, It's all about explosions to them."
All four Kais often argue with each other, make fun of each other, or insult each other, but West Kai seems to particularly be King Kai's rival.

West Kai has taught the following techniques to his students:
- Thunder Flash: This attack shoots an immense storm of flames from the persons fists, a very powerful attack. Arguably, when Pikkon used this move the third time it is what ultimately lead to his loss, as by then Goku had deduced that when this technique is used, the user can not move.

- In both English dubs, West Kai sounds like Guldo.
- West Kai is one of the few characters who do not die in Dragonball Z.
